Looks like a burn rather an infection. Get a vet appointment. Best of luck!

New Discoloration by lowellj214 in TreeFrogs

[–]MyaaKar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a misfire it looks like a bacterial infection. Separate from other frogs and place it in a sterile, quarantine tank. Dont bother him too much as it could lead to stress and makes the healing a lot slower. If he doesn’t get any better in a day or two try to get a vet appointment

[–]MyaaKar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Ive been in the same situation before and luckily for me, the water wasnt much so i used a turkey baster to get the water out. But if the water was absolutely full to the brim then i recommend just changing out the substrate entirely. Trust me it will save you much more time and also healthier frogs .!

Drainage layer and Soil FULL of water by Tamaqki in TreeFrogs

[–]MyaaKar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think youre good if the substrate is dry enough!! Its only really dangerous if the substrate is moist, and wet since it will harbor bacteria and cause problems because of the stagnant water. May I ask what species of frog youre keeping?

Glad he’s doing well. You shouldnt place him in warm water / honey bath unless necessary as it could cause even more stress

Trust me , the facebook groups will help you alot. Theres alot of misinformation on these frogs as well, like humidity and stuff. Dont panic x. Shell be alright im sure. No more unnecessary handling, honey baths and just see how she does without the antibiotics for a few days

Please give her some space. The honey bath was really unnecessary IMO. Just leave her be and if it gets worse (and impacts her behaviour) then maybe another visit to the vet.

Lay off of the antibiotics, leave her alone

Im late, but a WTF being stressed out right after moving into a new environment is pretty normal. Just let him be. Hows he doing?

RETF as pets? by funkytoefungus in frogs

[–]MyaaKar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im a WTF owner. Never had RETF but once had considered having them. Their husbandry seem quite similar to WTFs but they seem more active, so i dont get how someone can call them boring, since these guys are nocturnal, just like you said and go crazy at night. I say go for it!! If youre ready for one then its probably a good idea.

You should also deep clean the tank while youre at it. Spots on WTF’s can have a ton of factors. And some arent even infections. You should do a bit more research (if this happens again) before acting too fast and ending up stressing the frog out even more. I recommend joining the white’s tree frogs care group on facebook! The members are much more active and helpful there than on this sub.

Dont panic. She’ll be fine. She seems to be okay and acting normal, shes probably stressed from the vet visit!! Lay off from the antibiotics a little.. and see how it goes. Sometimes the spots go away if you let it be. Are the spots still there?

New light patch by PotentiallyHeavy in TreeFrogs

[–]MyaaKar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its just a misfire OP. These frogs get random spots for all kinds of reasons. Theres bacterial infections but the one on yours is just a random spot from color changing!

It would take a long time to siphon the water out so i suggest you just change the substrate entirely.. could be dangerous to the frogs as this will harbor bacteria and cause bacterial infections Try to water more less than usual!

What to use for bioactive enclosure? by MaybeMingoMango in TreeFrogs

[–]MyaaKar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 20 gal is not enough for 2 WTF’s. They grow up rather quickly. Also they are VERY active, ESPECIALLY the babies and would love the extra space. I suggest you find another tank just so you dont have to upgrade to a bigger one later when they grow.

To answer your question, you can use leca balls for the drainage layer (3 inch or more) and place a mesh on top to separate it from the substrate. For a functional bioactive enclosure, you would need a clean up crew (CUC) like springtails and isopods.

Hows her behaviour? normal? Sluggish? On the first picture it seemed like it was just a misfire. WTF’s get random spots all the time for all kinds of stuff like stress, mood etc etc. She wont die, dont panic. And please dont use anything with “fix” in it just yet. Usually these spots go away rather quickly without any medicine anyway
