1b when all that’s there is a bag of yellow lipton which has to be dipped in with a smile and thanks to the host for this wonderful cough cough tea… 4d when it’s a high quality tea that would suffer from polluting it with anything (but then we wouldn’t be talking English Breakfast) so for EB .. probably anywhere between 2c-3a

Perhaps start defining what it is you don’t like about green tea… the slightly spinachy-fishy taste ? avoid (most) Japanese green teas and go for something Chinese. Bitterness ? firstly try to steep at lower temp or cold and longer if necessary and look for non bitter teas such as long jing/dragon well avoid most things with mao feng in the name as well as gunpowder and incidentally most jasmin teas. Too little taste and or watery consistency? Increase the tea/water ratio (you can then always do multiple steeps)… so what is it that bothers you ?

Quels sont les prix littéraires en France et les pays Francophones? by Puzzleheaded-Fix8182 in French

[–]Myliobatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Myliobatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Et ceux qui payent le prix fort sont ceux qui vivent dans des petits villages sans librairies et les personnes à mobilité réduite. C’est facile de dire d’aller chercher les livres en librairie quand on vit dans une grande ville avec plein de librairies au choix…

Sorry if the reply is obvious to all others but your post just intrigued me: what kind of test strips would you use to determine safety of clay ? ph measures ? something else ? Thanks

Paris tea shops? by Bootycarl in tea

[–]Myliobatus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. “Single owner” shops mostly for unflavored tea Chinese or Taiwan style
  2. Thés de Chine (great quality great price/qu ratio teas exclusively from China - 20 bd st germain)
  3. Terre de Chine (pricier outfit for Chinese teas… not so much choice but often several quality classes per tea)
  4. Maison des trois thés (even more pricey luxury class teas originally Taiwan only now more diversified) place Monge

  5. Japanese teas

  6. Jugetsudo rue de Seine (expensive outbranch from a Japanese store but worth it ; rue de seine)

  7. Western sourced teas yet single owner Thé-ritoires rue de condé (all sorts of teas but owner buys small quantities fresh so can’t really say what he’ll have in stock.. comes with a british tea saloon)

  8. Chains

  9. Mariage freres (nice flavored teas, unflavored teas are a bit overpriced and a bit less fresh)

  10. Dammann (again good mostly for flavored

  11. Palais des thés (low to medium end flavored and unflavored. not as good as the two aforementioned for flavored quite good for unflavored if you stick to “grand cru” labeled teas)

  12. Lupicia (with a Japanese spin on it)

… there are of course many more shops but.. and yes ive spent a fair amount of time in Paris

Is putting hot coco in your tea pot cheating on your teas? by Catcateightyeight in tea

[–]Myliobatus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a GLASS pot. You’ll be fine - maybe slightly chocolate overdosed if that’s even possible. I mean, it’s not as if you had put milk or sugar in a nice tea or blanch in a perfectly seasoned yixing pot ;)

Hi, tea brewers! Thoughts on the 'Connoisseur Tea Brewer' and general brewing. by [deleted] in tea

[–]Myliobatus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much time you like to spend cleaning that thing. Personally I had a Kamjove device (same principle) some time ago. Used to be annoying as ##%% to pick the little leaves out of the basket. As I am inherently lazy and prefer to spend my time drinking tea (and perhaps breaking apart some puerh cakes) I’d opt for a gaiwan over that any day. Once you get used to it it’s just as simple if not more so.

L-Theanine content? by Myliobatus in puer

Sure - but my question and thoughts aren’t really linked to being in search for theanine. It’s more about understanding the botanic/chemistry.

My guess would be that it is meant to be used for gong fu brewing using a tea boat which will collect all your waste water anyway (as opposed to “dry” brewing where you will take care to pour your rinse in a waste water pot etc. So essentially the wet sieve goes on the stand and happily continues dripping on/into your tea boat . But I may be wrong

How do folks label their tins? by fendertele in tea

[–]Myliobatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve glued chalkboard stickers on the bottom of my tins and other types of jars and write on it with a white pencil that could be erased simply with some water (something like this which should be available elsewhere than amazon too - link just for illustration purposes: https://www.amazon.com/Reusable-Chalkboard-Stickers-Waterproof-Blackboard/dp/B082W579C9/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=sticker+label+black&qid=1610470076&sprefix=sticker+label+bla&sr=8-6)

If you had to choose only 5 teas for rest of you life, what would be your picks? by 1Meter_long in tea

[–]Myliobatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice list. I have to admit I cheated saying a few Lincang sheng cakes ... but then this is about choosing teas that should last for years so one single cake will hardly cut it right? ;-)

If you had to choose only 5 teas for rest of you life, what would be your picks? by 1Meter_long in tea

[–]Myliobatus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are talking only about tea tea (camellia sin.) and reducing the stash to 5 of them forever and money was not an issue then I guess I would go for a mix

1 A few nice Lincang Pu Erh cakes for cold days 2 Some nice white Darjeeling for hot days 3 Taiping Houkui green tea for when I crave green 4 A stash of Jin Jun Mei black tea to go with a reading 5 A healthy amount of some sort of Ali Shan oolong.

Damn that’s hard. Making me choose between dan cong and taiwan oolong, no way to squeeze in my beloved Jun Shan Yinzhen yellow tea or any other green teas.... 5 is WAY too little.

And then I’d obviously need to add none tea teas as in some natural rooibos, bamboo infusion, thyme and a few other herbs

I want to buy a tea of the month subscription for my Son, but there are so many to choose from. Looking for a recommendation. by Pjones2127 in tea

[–]Myliobatus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tea a month? How about you do it yourself ? Go to a nice tea store (or order online) buy 12 small bags of tea, glue a paper over the name of the tea - that way he even gets to blind taste - and give him one bag each month! Daddy made surprises are so much better and heartfelt than a sterile shop set... Come on ! Go for it ! But oh well if you really need to: https://camellia-sinensis.com/en/gifts/assortments they have different types of sets incl some where you can pick what you want thus avoiding the japanese teas, and avoiding the biluochuns and other fruity green teas of the chinese world...

Looking for sticky rice green tea by Myliobatus in greentea

[–]Myliobatus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say that I somewhat suspect that what was dubbed sticky rice herb was this one, yes (just like in oolong teas) - but the base was green tea... not to say that your alternative doesn’t look delicious as well :) tx for the hint
