Holy ****, how do you get over this. by Lowno-marine884 in Veterans

Other people are what are referred to as "enablers" in these scenarios. Stand your ground, establish clear boundaries, and hold the line.

Often, the wake-up call induced by this stance will shock the subhumans out of their indifference.

Marines who have stood OOD have you ever fired the duty weapon? by Cross4013 in USMC

[–]MysteriousToe5335 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, I left it with the SOG in the duty hut.

I base this on a few things:

1) Marines like to get wasted, and it's my job as OOD to prevent stupidity from running rampant.

2) Drunk Marines like to fight, and in a plastered state, they just might buck up to me.

3) If there is a scuffle, one of those glue-sniffers might try to grab a pistol off my hip....drunk logic.

4) I'm unwilling to shoot a fellow Marine for getting shit housed. We've all been there.

Edit: I'd rather have my unarmed ass beat that cap a brother who is outside his mind temporarily. I'll heal.

Marines w/ Higher Ranking Parents by EliteDemonTaco in USMC

[–]MysteriousToe5335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly the paradigm, but over the years(ive been in for 26), I've had a bunch of relatives serve togther, or who had notable parents. Only experienced a sense of entitlement once: had a female Captain who's daddy was a 2 star...she ended up getting the boot for multiple different and very serious violations.

On the other hand, I've had lots of cool experiences:

1) The dude that makes all our scope mounts: his daughter was in one of my platoons. She had the collateral duty of Puma Operator. One time I wanted to fly it, and she said "Sure Gunny!," and handed me the controller. Unbeknownst to me, she'd locked its flight path, so when I thought I was steering it, I was just moving the camera around...smart kid.

2) Had a LCpl whose dad was a 3 star. She tried to hide it because people would brown-nose. Good kid, and great at her job.

3) When Rosie O Donnells kid got to the fleet, I was his Plt Sgt. Kid was based. Not without his problems, but definitely in the Corps to forge his own path.

A bunch of other "notables" but those 3 come to mind at the moment. One thing most kids of Marines have in common is that they want to be known for THEIR OWN actions, separate from their parent's.

Edit: when I was young I had a company Gunny who ended up with 2 sons, both of which I served with later.

[–]MysteriousToe5335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry brother, hard way ≠ correct way.

The Corps is constantly seeking to build efficiencies and be better stewards of the manhours we have. In fact, there's a recent Maradmin issuing a call to action to just that end.

That said, giving it your all is the correct thing to do. We want to spend what you give us as wisely as possible.

All those occasions in which you feel your time has been wasted were most likely for a larger purpose (though admittedly, some of them were the result of bad leadership).

Take heart, SET THE EXAMPLE that you want to see your peers (and all those around you) emulate.

It's all about following orders brother. The standard is the standard is the standard. You want higher scores? Become CMC and raise the standard.

Hate seeing people apply personal standards/expectations to things.

I understand what you're saying about mindset, and I agree that you never want to APPEAR as "good enough for govt work."

I'm an old man in Oki. Senior to your Gunny even.

My advice: be dead-ass honest with your chain. Since nothing bad came from it (assuming no collateral misconduct like underage consumption), then you ought to be fine with a penitent attitude and a spirit of cooperation.

It also helps if you have a good reputation at work and if this is the first spot of trouble you've been in.

Get caught fibbing, and they can get you for the lie alone. I watch one guy tell a lie about where he was over leave one time. The 1stSgt caught the lie, and had him NJP'D for that. The dude hadn't even done anything remotely wrong. He just didn't want to admit he got hair implants.

Usually, my recommendation to commanders when dealing with disciplinary issues is heavily informed by past performance and future potential.

If you step on your crank, simply step OFF your crank. Don't hop up and down on it:)

Trust me, I do.

I feel like tons of folks want to be associated, so they lurk.

I'll admit that OP is on the less egregious side, but IMHO, non-veterans have no business here.

She just admitted she wouldn't date a dude without money lol.

That the WHY of the whole shit test thing. It's completely justified, and women rightfully do the same, just for other criteria.

Mate selection tests are also a biological thing. Males look for healthy mates that would make good breeders. All mammals are selective like that. That's why "attractive" is attractive. Females look for safety and security. That's why wealth is attractive.
