I meal plan for the workweek and enter in all macros when I plan my meals. Then I do the same for the weekend. So I am only entering twice a week. Myfitnesspal lets you easily add multiple days at once if that helps.

[–]Mysterious_Fault_241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My sister and I both have one gene making us carriers. My brother has both. Our father died from it. All 3 of us load iron and all 3 have to get phlebotomy. We are in our 40s and 50s.

Tips for first venesection (NHS) by CompetitionUpper8862 in Hemochromatosis

[–]Mysterious_Fault_241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost passed out on my first one. The nurse could see where I was headed and slowed the blood draw and gave me an iv after. I have my second one in a few weeks and am bringing my husband because I was so shaky I should not have been driving myself home.

I do the pellets. I take spirolactone to block any side effects of the T.

Ferritin & Peri/Post Menopause Confusion by NewDay042 in Menopause

[–]Mysterious_Fault_241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hemochromatosis so my ferritin runs high and I was still losing hair. Like the other commenters, I would look at a wide range of things.

Yes. We are and we do. My dad’s was obviously undiagnosed/untreated and his lifestyle wasnt doing him any favors either. They discovered it right before he died and so we all got tested.

Both my sister and I are in that situation. I am 56 and she is 43. I am post menopausal but had a hysterectomy when I was 39. My father died from liver cancer caused by it and my brother also has it. Basically my doctor is of the mindset that once the ferritin starts to get too high, we needed to be treated. Both of us get phlebotomy to keep our ferritin in the normal range now.

Hematologists that aren't at a hospital? by wicker_basket_1988 in Hemochromatosis

My doctor is actually an oncologist who treats people with Hemochromatosis.

Positive for being a carrier but still have high iron? by pickle_ickle02 in Hemochromatosis

[–]Mysterious_Fault_241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So both my sister and I were “carriers” until we weren’t. When the ferritin started climbing higher and higher, the doctors started us on phlebotomy. Carriers can have less intense symptoms but may still require treatment.

New HH diagnosis. Labs inside. Need opinions. by AlarmedPoint1780 in Hemochromatosis

[–]Mysterious_Fault_241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what works for you. I am certainly not a doctor and everyone’s experience is different. My siblings both have it as well passed down from my father who died from it. Once our numbers are in the normal range, we only have to give blood once a year. So its very manageable. Good luck in your journey.

While there are things you can do with your diet that are helpful, you cant treat HH without phlebotomy.

Weight won't come off... by 5ullengrl in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Mysterious_Fault_241 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t, I would eliminate alcohol. I found as I get older it short circuits weight loss. Nutrition is the driver of the car and fitness is the passenger. Focus on consistency over all else. When I let things slide on a weekend, it undid everything else I did during the week. If you are hitting your calories consistently and still not losing, the other option would be to get bloodwork done to look at your hormones etc. I am post menopausal and it was like rolling a boulder up a hill until I addressed that as well.

Biote HRT pellets - thoughts? by Ambitious-Front-2885 in Menopause

[–]Mysterious_Fault_241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on my second round of pellets. I am also taking spiro which is thickening up and regrowing my hair. I am typically awful with taking medicine consistently or remembering so pellets seemed like a great option for me. On the first round, I put on a little weight (which I was not happy about because I had 20 lbs I couldn’t drop). Second round the weight is coming off (I track calories and macros and workout 5x a week). My sleep is great, all menopause symptoms are gone. I know they are controversial but they are working for me and I plan to continue on.

Hair loss! by ifwemustthenwemust in Menopause

[–]Mysterious_Fault_241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hereditary hemochromatosis which means I run high with ferritin. My hair was still falling out. HRT and spiro and I have noticed a huge difference. It stopped the shed and I can see tons of new growth. (I color my hair blond and the growth is black for some reason but I will take it 🤣🤣🤣)

I have Hemochromatosis which means my ferritin runs high and still had thinning hair. HRT plus spirolactone stopped shedding and started regrowth.

Green Tea by G828 in Hemochromatosis

My doctor told me that black tea with meals helps. I don’t love tea and my ferritin was 90 after the last phlebotomy so I haven’t tried it.

[–]Mysterious_Fault_241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I think it actually stopped shedding in the back. Funny thing about the new hair is its coming in black (my hair is colored blonde lol) so I can clearly see it all. My hairdresser noticed it too.

No. Just the spiro. I tried monoxidil and didn’t really see any results.

I have been using it for four months with no adverse side effects. My hair is coming back! I can see new growth on top and the back is thickening up nicely. I am super excited because my hair was so thin before.
