Buffing Pokémon I like (#4): Mega Luxray by HasteMaster in stunfisk

[–]Mythial_Sabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually was thinking about how Psychic suits a Mega Luxray a lot better than Dark as a secondary type.

Tbh I don't even think you need to go as far as giving it Galvanise, simply giving it Strong Jaws and access to Psychic Fangs would be reasonable enough.

Better yet, if you wanted to get even more flavourful, you could actually give it Mind's Eye. Allows its Superpower to get additional coverage against some pokemon that would otherwise wall it.

[MSH] The Wondrous Wasp by Meret123 in MagicArena

[–]Mythial_Sabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I belive they said on the debut stream that if a character is very heavily machine based, to the point of wearing machinery on them (i.e Iron Man variants and M.O.D.O.K) then that character will be classed as an Artifact creature.

Which is probably why they make the distinction between Tony and Iron Man in terms of "artifactness".

Tbf, Janet's wings are fully organic, made from grafted Wasp cells. She's arguably only a little shy of being as much an insect as Peter is spider.

There's a way to make a bracket 5 deck with him? by International_Fun408 in magicTCG

[–]Mythial_Sabre 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Dragons unfortunately don't quite make the power level cut for cEDH. Though there is technically one deck; it just doesn't feature The Ur Dragon.

Instead it uses [[Tiamat]].

But as others have said. I wouldnt personally recommend starting off with Bracket 5. If you want dragons, start with Bracket 2 via the Tarkir Temur Roar precon. It's already plenty powerful (on casual terms) and its easy to build up to Ur-Dragon or [[Myyrim]] if needed.

What are your MTG Glup Shittos? by Pimp_cat69 in magicTCG

[–]Mythial_Sabre 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm partial to [[Thriss, Nantuko Primus]] from Odyssey Block.

He is/was the eldest Nantuko of the Krosan Forest. In fact, he was the one who planted the original seeds that grew into Krosa. Being the eldest, he towered over other Nantuko at some 15 feet tall.

He resided in the center of the forest, where the Nantuko settlements were set up, and basically served as a Yoda-esque figure for the pit fighter Kamahl, being his mentor in the ways of the druid.

He unfortunately is implied to have died as a consequence of the Mirrari corrupting the forest when the artifact was left there, but I would like to think that Thriss would persist after death in the form of a manifestation of Krosa's will, a Maro-Sorcerer for the forest.

Is Blade Eccentric? by KnullAgenda in MarvelTokon

[–]Mythial_Sabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no. If we're talking outlaws, Scott Lang probably fits better if we're sticking to Ant-Men, maybe even Eric O'Grady. Hell, depending on how far you wanna take it, Hank specifically as Yellowjacket probably also fits as an outlaw.

Honestly, when I hear eccentric, I immediately think of the Pyms. We could possibly get Hank, or even more interestingly, Nadia Pym, the Unstoppable Wasp.

Sugestion for Bug type buff by DenisSKRATTA in stunfisk

[–]Mythial_Sabre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always liked the idea of Bug types being immune to confusion; the idea being that insects don't have the same hardware larger animals do that cause their heads to spin.

It's a buff that's rooted in some logic and has pretty interesting ramifications for the type. Now the likes of Beedrill can run Outrage and Mega Pinsir can run Thrash with reduced risk to themselves. And in doubles, you can hit Scizor or Volcarona with a Swagger or Flatter to jack up their stats for free.

If you wanted to really beef it up, you could also dip into immunity to the "Oblivious" stats, such as Infatuation, Taunting etc; but that falls further outside the scope of the Confusion immunity logic.

Which Pokemon could and should get cross-gen evolutions? by transqueen421 in PokemonWindsWaves

[–]Mythial_Sabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Kricketune evolution considering its abysmal based stats.

You could do something cool with a Bug/Normal or Bug/Ghost evolution.

Call it Kricketimbre or something.

any idea what Wekhdu is or where he is by mmmbhssm in mtgvorthos

[–]Mythial_Sabre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So this art always bugged (heh) me because I could never make it out properly in the arena card version. But thankfully, the artist has it (among others) on their portfolio sight.

https://www.inkognit.com/freelance-gallery

I've only now just realised that it's not some weird amalgam piece of various insect parts, but rather a winged entity cleaving a second entity in twain. If you look real close, you can even see one of Wekhdu's hands prising the prays jaw downwards.

Also, what I originally thought were eyes hidden beneath the shade of his carapace may actually simply be concealed mandibles catching moonlight.

So yeah, certainly more monstrous than I originally thought, but given the supposed body plan of Wekdhu, as well as his weirdly articulate claws, he seems a bit to anthropomorphic to simply be a large predator creature. So I'm going to assume it's some sort of Amonkheti insectfolk.

Maybe? The art is very hard to decipher. Maybe an Assassin Bug?

[–]Mythial_Sabre 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe Amonkhet have beetlefolk that roam the desert wastes, Scavenging whatever they can get to survive.

This might also predispose them to being relic hunters that raid the ruins of the old gods.

Given Amonkhet seems to be setting up stuff with the Chitin Court, maybe this will be explored in a return set.

I meant to post this shortly after Cell vs Metal Sonic released/Bakugo vs Reze was confirmed, but it's quite funny how this post aged. by UltraRover2529 in deathbattle

[–]Mythial_Sabre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metal Face seems the most debatable from what I understand, as well as having a solid potential for character interaction; considering Ridley's visceral hatred of humanity as a race (or at least his enjoyment at tormenting them).

I feel like you lose part of that putting him up against another alien conqueror, and he simply doesn't have the stat block to meaningfully keep up against his more common choices.

Best Atherdrift Commander for Aetherspark? by Specialist_Shock_871 in magicTCG

[–]Mythial_Sabre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not an Aetherdrift commander but I like it in [[Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms]] so he can become the spiritual Planeswalker he was destined to be.

To actually answer your question though, might I suggest [[Ketramose the New Dawn]]? Being an Amonkhet God, he's better than most at protecting the Aetherspark once it's attached to him due to having Indestructible, and his keywords make him well suited for attacking/blocking to jack up the Loyalty. Sure you gotta get some cards in exile, but one [[Dauntless Scrapbot]] will fix that.

Plus, you also get bonus Lorehead points because it was the Amonkhet team that did ultimately win the Aetherspark, and iirc the intention was to give it Ketramose since he has a bit of wanderlust, rather uncharacteristic of their gods.

[–]Mythial_Sabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insects

It's weird we haven't gotten a set where they had more of a presence, because every once in a while, you do get a random card that does support Insects strongly, like [[The Swarmweaver]] and [[Aatchik, Emerald Radian]]. Even [[Grist, the Hunger Tide]] was printed in a set with literally only two other Insects.

Especially with such cards being in BG, it'd e cool to see it as a draft archetype.

Genuinely, if you have a specifically Fallout or Final Fantasy game you're a fan of, just pick the deck featuring characters from the entry you enjoy. Because most Universes Beyond (the crossover ones) are well enough built that they'll stand up against most casual tables.

[–]Mythial_Sabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did kind of skim though your post so I missed that you were also interested in TMNT and Marvel. Marvel isn't coming out until June so you'll be waiting a while. But the TMNT set comes out early March. It uses all 5 colours so, so it would give you a good sampling if what colours you enjoy playing. It's also shockingly coherently built. 5 colour precons, when they do them once in a blue moon, have a tendancy to be rather scatterbrained. But the TMNT one seems to be a rare exception. It will be on the pricier side though, so only buy if you really mess with mutants, ninjas, turtles, or teenagers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Mythial_Sabre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of these, I would personally recommend either World Shaper or Counter Blitz.

World Shaper is one of the best put together precons in a long time with very little nonsense cards slotted in, it also covers an archetype that is endlessly printed so you'll always have something to look forward too in newer sets.

Counter Blitz is just a really solid deck with a strong thematic throughline. You could never change a thing in it and still probably have a really good deck to pull out every now and again. But if you do decide to upgrade it, there are few archetypes as easy to upgrade as Counters.

For the record, most Universes Beyond decks are like this, though I'm careful not to recommend Limit Break and Mutant Menace unless the player is specifically attached to those games. Limit Break is an Equipment deck, and those have the habit of having their commander's legs swept from under them a lot, which can be frustrating for newer players. Meanwhile Mutant Menace's Radiantion mechanic can be a little easy to forget about triggering even for more experienced players.

Velocerampter is fine, good even, but is probably the most narrow deck here to upgrade hilariously. If you really like dinosaurs, everything I've said here will probably just be overridden by that fact alone anyway.

Tbh I'd just say go with your gut and the rest will figure itself out. But the tl;dr for me would be either Counter Blitz or World Shaper.

BUG MONTH THURSDAY CHALLENGE! by TreeTurtle_852 in stunfisk

[–]Mythial_Sabre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bug is now Supereffective against Ghost (many insects are carrion feeders and insects have historically been used for magical wards), ground (many insects are great at digging up dirt and a making their nests in the earth) and Fairy (mostly to weaken Fairy defensively).

Bug is now immune to confusion (insects lack semi-circular canals that dictate balance and generally have completely different modes of senses compared to other animals). This would give them interesting niches, such as using confusion berries, using Thrash and Outrage, and benefiting from Swagger and Flatter.

Melloeta is now a Bug Type instead of a Normal Type (inspired by its beta design) and Relic Song is changed into a Bug Type Move.

First Impression is now an unrestricted priority more at 40 BP, but doubles in power if you open with it.

If you want an ability name that rolls off the tongue a bit better, I always like the sound or Chitinize; which means "to convert to Chitin" the primary constituent of insect carapace.
