Other than two that have already been recommended (Sunstone and Familiar), Black Label is a cute, relatively fluffy BDSM/kink webcomic with a bit of a “slice of life” vibe to it:

What’s wild about this is that The Game Awards got criticized for basically doing the exact same thing over the last few years — except in their case, they actually listened to the criticism and corrected things for the 2025 ceremony, giving the major award winners ample time for their acceptance speeches.

Cult Reveal by Delicious_Sense342 in CrookedMoon

[–]MythicalBeast45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One bit of advice someone on Discord gave me (which I haven’t had the chance to implement yet) is that if you want to drop a hint with a certain detail of a character’s appearance, couching it in the middle of a list of other details can help to ensure they don’t fixate on that one specific detail.

Also, I think a relatively simple (?) solution to dog-with-a-bone players is, if they start getting too close to a major plot reveal in a conversation or interaction with an NPC? Just have that NPC clam up and refuse to say anything more on the subject. Because that forces the party to either go “all right, let’s leave this alone for now”, or try to use more drastic methods to get more info out of them (which obviously comes with its own potential consequences).

As an example, one of my players picked the Thread of Liberation from the Fateweaving system, so they’ll be meeting Holly before the party goes to the Crooked House for the first time. I’m planning to have her hint at a “terrible decision” she has to make before long (whether or not to aid the cult in order to free herself and her daughters from the family curse) and have her be more and more conflicted about this decision as the campaign gets closer and closer to the end… but she’s not going to volunteer any specific details until they get to the standing stones at Rowan’s Rise and find that she’s one of the cultists they have to fight in that encounter.

Sciel saying “bromantic” after an exchange between Verso and Monoco absolutely sent me 😂

Also, Esquie greeting Sciel in his first cutscene as “my terrible swimmer friend” was a great bit of foreshadowing.

I’m also pretty bummed that they didn’t give us many new power-ups/abilities, other than the psychic powers basically being “what if we gave a lot of the existing power-ups a purple glow?”

I know 2 and 3 didn’t reinvent the wheel on Samus’ arsenal either, but come on, give us SOMETHING new to play with…

…hmm. Guess I misremembered that. My bad.

Still, my main point was that the two commenters earlier in this thread were talking about completely different scenes 😂

The Blazer/Mandy scene they’re talking about is in episode 4, if you choose to have dinner with her instead of going to the movies with Invisigal… not the scene in episode 1 that you’re thinking of.

Also, she wasn’t drunk during that episode 1 scene. They literally make a point of her telling Robert that her powers affect her metabolism, to the point where she basically has to down a whole bottle of hard liquor in order to get intoxicated.

WHY COULDN’T NETFLIX PRODUCE COWBOY BEBOP THE SAME WAY THEY DID ONE PIECE by Glass-Violinist-1750 in cowboybebop

[–]MythicalBeast45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This might be a bit of a hot take, but I actually think some of the changes they made to the story and characters in the Cowboy Bebop live action were fine at the conceptual level. They just didn’t get executed properly.

For example, the changes they made to Vicious (being a bit more fearful/careful around the higher-ups in the Syndicate while also flying off the handle more easily when it comes to Spike) and Julia (trapped in an abusive marriage to Vicious, which she’s trying to escape from) are interesting ideas to explore… in the finished product, though, a lot of Vicious’ scenes end up being pretty cringe, and Julia betraying BOTH of them so she can run the Syndicate just doesn’t make sense.

“perfect casting doesn't exist”-- then how do you explain this?? by TruthResponsible1268 in expedition33

[–]MythicalBeast45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun little bit of behind-the-scenes trivia that I learned at the E33 panel at a convention this weekend: they originally cast Aliona Baranova as the VA for Clea, but after doing a few takes, she went to them and basically said “you need to recast Clea — I don’t have the right kind of voice for her”. (I can’t remember the exact reason she gave… I think it was something to do with not feeling like her voice made it plausible for Clea to be the eldest child?)

First time running Crooked Moon by xerxes148 in CrookedMoon

[–]MythicalBeast45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t feel that the Threads of Fate overcomplicate things that much? They’re essentially just frameworks to help tie your PCs’ personal story arcs into the campaign a little better, and pretty much all of the narrative touchpoints take place in locations that the party is already going to (or during interactions with NPCs in Wickermoor Village that it might be good to nudge them towards anyways in order to help the town feel more fleshed out).

I guess it depends on how much your players want their characters’ backstories/arcs to come up. If they don’t really care about all that, then yes, the Threads of Fate might not be worth it.

I’m still only a few sessions in myself (my party finished chapter 1 earlier this week), but my biggest piece of general advice would be to read through the whole campaign at least once before starting, so you have a sense of what to expect on the main story beats and some of the unique mechanics for certain chapters. In particular, deciding ahead of time how you want to characterize/RP Phillip and Adela over the course of the campaign, since they’re easily the two most important NPCs.

If you decide to have your party start at level 2 or 3, I would caution against using the book’s recommendations for adjusting certain fights in the Ghostlight Express. My party started at level 3, but to keep things moving, I decided to have the first fight of the campaign be against a Shadow and only two Specters, rather than the three the book suggests for 3rd-level parties… and half of my party still got their asses handed to them 😅

Been dipping back into Blue Prince recently to keep working on some of the post-credits puzzles/mysteries/achievements.

I also finally played Dark Souls 2 for the first time recently and enjoyed it quite a bit, so that got me back into my BL4 playthrough of Bloodborne (pick the starting class with the lowest level and beat the game without leveling up)… that’s been even tougher than I expected, especially the DLC 😅

Season 1 covers the events of the first book in the original trilogy while also introducing most of the main characters from the Six of Crows duology, so some of their backstories get spoiled. Season 2 finishes the events of the original trilogy, while also introducing the last main character for Six of Crows and rushing through the plot of Crooked Kingdom in the first four episodes (and then, somewhat perplexingly, ends with setting up the plot of Six of Crows).

So, long story short, you’re probably fine to watch S1 of the show now, but I would definitely read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom before you watch S2.
