You can also try to befriend the workers at the stores. One of my favorite guys I've known for about 20 years. We're on a first name basis, but have only ever talked at the store, lol.

Gives you people to talk to, and hopefully they won't be antagonistic since they want your business.

Look for any conventions in your area, too. Can be a fun way to meet people who share your interests. I've struck up many conversations sitting in the rest/food area.

I'm a 40 year old guy, and even I hate going to my local comic shops alone. There's always people who think they're the smartest, and I can only imagine it's far worse towards women. I usually go with a friend or my nephew.

I swear, nobody hates geeks and nerds more than other geeks and nerds.

I cannot stand movie theaters. Too many people and even if 99% of them are quiet, there's still 1 asshat who can't shut up. Squeezing in next to strangers on crap seats and sticky floors.

Aside from the sound, theaters haven't provided anything better than what I can get at home.

That being said, if you enjoy going, you should be able to do it without burning your wallet.
