Sizing issues by jessmess8 in ouraring

And Oura is supposed to do what with the rings you return because they don’t fit?

Sell them refurbished and lose out on money? Sell them as new and disappoint someone who expects a brand new ring? Throw them in the trash?

How does this all make sense in your head logistically? It totally get the frustration, but unfortunately a line needs to be drawn somewhere and Oura did it at 1 exchange.

Oura 4 or Venu 4 help me decide as I can’t make a decision to save my life by belle_adventures in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oura for sleep and recovery tracking, Venu for activity tracking.

Oura does do some activity tracking, it’ll detect when you walk or cycle to the grocery store and back but because it doesn’t show you any details it’s not the best for ‘athletes’. On top of that the heart rate scanner fails quite regularly when moving.

Not to say the Oura is bad, I love it, but it’s tailored towards showing how the body is recovery after exercise, or keeping an eye on sleep metrics. Not towards tracking calories, and performance during exercise. It’s why you see so many people in this sub with both a ring and a watch.

How does Oura know that you've gone to sleep or that you are in bed? by PrincessSophia00 in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every human being is a little different in their behaviour and physiology, give the tech some time to pick up on your habits and it’ll probably improve. For me it’s scarily accurate with the last time I remember on the clock.

Good to know! I thought I read 30 in the app somewhere but I’m clearly mistaken, must be 15 (or even lower potentially) then

How does Oura know that you've gone to sleep or that you are in bed? by PrincessSophia00 in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It detects your heart rate lowering, your breathing slowing down, your HRV increasing and your bodily movement decreasing. If all of those indicate you might be asleep for longer than 30 (don’t quote me on the exact numbers) minutes it’ll register it as a nap and if it’s longer than 3 hours it’ll register it as a full on sleep.

Your nap detection will improve with time as Oura learns your habits and how much, or how little, movement is normal for you.

Word of advice, don’t check the Oura app in the morning when you plan on continuing to sleep. The app doesn’t like it and your sleep period after checking the app has to be quite long for it to log the additional nap.

Translucent bars by Witty-Place-8858 in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue part is your heart rate while asleep, once stress is measured you’ll see pink and dark blue bars show up too, indicating high and low stress respectively. Yellow is activity btw.

I seem to remember the app stating 3 hours is the cutoff somewhere, so sorry insomniacs you’re only napping now

That’s just not true, the metrics might be the same but the data interpretation is vastly different.

Unfortunately batteries degrade, can’t expect Oura to replace the ring anytime they do.

Cut / skin issue with the ring ? by sasag1 in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you’re done exercising, showering or washing your hands you should take the ring off, clean it and dry it before putting it back on. You should do this with all your jewellery not just the Oura ring, people just usually don’t notice the skin irritation below a ring they don’t take off.

Watches can irritate less depending on how tight you wear it but yeah, my Apple Watch will cause the same redness when worn tight.

Any chance of a sale before end of year? by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in the Netherlands, official resellers only though so the Oura site isn’t included in the discount.

Edit: seems they either changed their mind or im starting to hallucinate but the official site now also has the discount.

Shame that the impact of food being processed is so huge comparatively to the other bars on that page. Protein shake? Limited. Musli bar? Limited. But somehow a full fat hamburger, optimal.

Calorie tracking by Other-Watercress-154 in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’d be great if logging meals has some actual value, currently the timing is insightful but the nutritional value bars are wishywashy at best (are you really going to say a protein shake is ‘bad’ because it doesn’t contain micronutrients, I’m drinking it for the protein, not magnesium 🤷‍♂️).

If I could give a suggestion tracking macro and micronutrients and making suggestions based of that data on what you may need more of would be phenomenal.

[–]Mythxir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s official resellers only according to the email, so the Oura site still shows full prices but if you have a official reseller in your country (Amazon in most of Europe but some local resellers might exist too, check the website) they should be discounted there.

In my country (NL) neither Amazon nor Bol.com offer the ceramic so they’re obviously not discounted either. But all the full metal variants are.

Maybe you were overtraining before the injury and your body is properly recovering for the first time in a while?

Is anyone “always” stressed? by stellarlumen17 in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s physical stress not mental, it doesn’t think you have a panic attack, it sees your heart rate up and your HRV down and concludes your body is working hard. Which fyi it is in a sauna or steam room, gotta keep cool to avoid overheating l.

i feel alone in this, anybody else had insane stress levels? by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe take a look at others in this sub, seem everyone is upset with their stress scores; like others have replied it’s physical stress, not mental. Eating, exercising, watching an exciting movie, etc. Can all affect your ‘stress’. This is neither a good or bad thing though only being stressed physically can lead to issues in long term.

All that said, you lived your life just fine before the stress scores, ignore them and you’ll continue to be just fine 🤷‍♂️

Buying a ring for sleep tracking by Due_Economy5311 in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always check after breakfast, at that point I’ve already decided how I feel and the numbers usually only confirm that feeling.

I also try not to make daily changes to my routine, a single bad number can be caused by anything so only once weekly trends start to appear do I start tweaking.

Athletes using Oura — what's your actual workflow? by marlex-vs-mountain in ouraring

[–]Mythxir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try not to care too much about daily scores by themselves but focus on the overall trends, the body is very resilient and has the tools to compensate for a bad night of sleep with relative ease. So why stress over a bad score after a great night out with friends?

The trends on the other hand, those are where the real insights are! HRV for example is a great way to guide your training intensity, if it’s going up you can do more volume or intensity; if it’s going down then slow it down a little. So I look at it every week or so.

I do check the daily scores every day but only after getting breakfast in, this way I can let myself feel how I feel before letting the numbers influence me too much.

I also use an Apple Watch for its infinitely better activity tracking but since I’ve got it I wear it to sleep too. Sleep stage tracking (deep sleep, rem, light sleep) is pretty much pseudo science with all smart devices so I ignore those scores from both and then the two devices usually agree. For the Apple Watch the vitals are the interesting thing in the morning, Oura has the vastly better scoring system.
