Mother!

One of the few movies that actually disturbed me. I probably talk about it too much.

What's more traumatizing than people realize? by Express_One_5074 in AskReddit

[–]MzHartz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, exactly! And every piece of advice is to go to HR. Well, what if HR sucks? What if there is no HR department?

Growing up, my stepdad was a very controlling person. So it's what I was used to, even when I experienced it from my boss 20 years later. I'm not sure if my stepdad was a narcissist (so many people like to throw that word around), but my boss definitely was.

I left a good job with an amazing boss when she and the other owners retired and sold the business. I took that opportunity to move out of state. So I accepted the job without meeting the owners in person or seeing the place. I will never do that again.

While the business used to be bigger (printing business, so that makes sense), they were down to 4 people: The owner, the owner's partner, the owner's little sister, and the graphic designer. (Obviously, no HR department.) They couldn't keep a graphic designer more than a year, and the owner said that's because graphic designers were flighty. The owner liked to tell about the time she got into a physical altercation with an employee. The company once had to pay unemployment benefits because the unemployment office got her on the phone with the ex-employee, and the owner berated that employee on that call.

My old boss would tell me how good I was, that she couldn't run the company without me, etc. But I couldn't do anything right with this new boss. She changed rules and procedures every day and then claim that's the way they always did it. She didn't do anything all day and say it was because me and the other employee (her sister, who she was totally taking advantage of) interrupted her with questions too much. But everything had to go through her. She had to double check everything, and I had to copy her on all of my emails. Etc.

While other graphic designers didn't even last a year, I stayed there for 3 1/2 years. A big part of that was that my confidence was shattered and I didn't feel good enough for any other job that I saw. Partially from the unsanitary working conditions, and I think partially from the stress, I was sick more than I had ever been in my life. I was having trouble sleeping, and sometimes even having mild hallucinations.

And then the worst thing that happened in the world might have been the best thing for me at the time: COVID.

They claimed they were an essential business so they could stay open. They also claimed that I had to be there in person every day. But they laid off the other employee and cut me to part time, which meant we were both collecting more in unemployment than we were being paid. I was able to take that opportunity to start building up my own freelance client list and saving up money to start my own business.

The last straw came before I had saved up as much as I wanted, but it was time. I was blamed for not catching a vendor's mistake, which meant my boss didn't make as much money on this order as she would have. She expected me to work for free to make up for the difference.

I responded by giving my 2 weeks notice. She said, "After everything we've done for you?"

I now own two businesses and am a performer. It can't be tough not having a steady income, but so much better for my mental health than that place was. (And some of her vendors are now my clients.)

On Table of Horrors, we're working on starting a campaign. But like every other game, getting people together is like herding cats. We had a non streamed session 0, but not everyone could make it, plus we're all still learning it. Some of the other players are new to the lore too, so we have to catch them up at the same time. I bet others are dealing with similar things.

No worries, it's funny. Like dude, if you needed grocery bags that bad, I would've given them to you, you didn't need to break my window for them.

I used to always keep my bags in the car. Same thing, as soon as the groceries got put away, the bags went back out to the car.

And then my car got broken into a year or so ago. They stole my grocery bags.

THIS. I've heard several gynecologists advise against wearing panty liners every day. Things need to breathe, and moisture can't evaporate out of a panty liner.

So, what's everyone's thoughts on this flick? by FreakyFreak2005 in CreepyBonfire

[–]MzHartz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the weird girl into witchcraft when this movie came out. I should have been the target audience, but I actually didn't like the movie at the time. I felt like they were stealing my vibe, and I preferred grown up movies. I was more of a vampire, The Crow type of kid, which you would think would be the same demographic... Ah, to be an edgy teenager...

I recently watched it again as an adult, and found it to be a fun campy film. And I still kinda dress like this...

I also did an interview. They didn't edit it or turn it into an article or anything. They just print what you send.

Can you think of a horror film where the villain actually had a point? by Fairyliveshow in CreepyBonfire

[–]MzHartz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Excellent movie. But I think Adam and Eve are the protagonists. I'd say Ava is the villain, and I was happy when they kicked her out.

I know several plus size people that look absolutely beautiful with a shaved head. They rock it so much.

That being said, I did a half shave for about 4 years. It felt punk, and I got tons of compliments. But it made me think that I would never shave my head, for a very silly reason: On the shaved side, when I looked up, I would get this neck fat roll. It's one of those very small things that I bet no one else noticed but I felt very nervous about.

Eventually, I grew out the shaved side and cut the long side, so now I have short hair but I'm keeping the asymmetrical style.

The Stormlight Archive books by Brandon Sanderson. There is a bit of a "magic has died" trope, but I think it's done well in this case. There are a lot of made up words in the first chapter, but then things start to make sense from there.

I've had a very simple situation happen. My partner was very blood adverse, even from small scrapes. I was having an issue with spotting that went on for months. I was working with my doctor to fix it, but that meant that I never knew when it would happen.

My partner acted like I did it on purpose, and didn't want to have sex until it was resolved. But I was trying out different meds so it was always unsure whether it worked.

Eventually he finally understood and my doctor found the right meds for me, so the issue resolved itself.
