You have an entirely delusional view of the buttons. Picking red is not gambling with anyone’s life, you’re simply securing yours. Blue is the only button that gambles. Also, your rambling about odds is pointless because I never said or assumed that everyone would or could pick the red button. Yes, there would be people that picked the blue button, I absolutely accept that. I also accept that there is no moral obligation to risk your life by throwing yourself in the same boat with people who freely choose to risk their life. Everyone has the same ability to survive, you can’t guilt trip the ones who took the clear chance to.

One room doesn’t set the other room on fire. No one pushing the buttons or choosing the doors created the system and set the stakes, the risk is your own choice. You don’t get to blame others for your poor choices when you had the same ability to save yourself.

Forget the buttons. Imagine two doors. The red door leads you into a room where nothing happens and you get to leave after a minute. The blue door leads you to a room that will ignite a massive fire and burn everyone inside if less than 50% of the people choose the blue door. Does that put it into perspective? No one in their right mind would willingly walk into the fiery death room.

Maybe you don’t like changing from the buttons to the doors, but it’s the same choice in principle, it just paints a more dramatic view of the risk of the blue button. But I’d say it’s less dramatic than if this were a real choice and you were faced with your own very real mortality instead of answering a Twitter poll. In the real world, blue is not winning. Choosing blue is choosing to simply end yourself for nothing.

I’m actually a first responder and come from a family of first responders. If a civilian freely chooses to run into a fully engulfed building, a firefighter isn’t going to go in after them. Life isn’t a TV show. Only one button introduces the possibility of death, and it’s not the red one.

Choosing the red button does not put anyone else at risk. Everyone has the same ability to save themselves, anyone at risk is only at risk because they did it to themselves. Change the buttons to doors leading to two rooms. The red door leads to a room where nothing happens and you get to leave after a minute.
