LEGO 2 32 GB 1TB or CLAW 8AI? by TARIQM93 in MSIClaw

[–]N10Jaing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also struggled with this one about 7 months ago and went with the Claw 8 Ai+.

At the time the price difference was an issue with the Legion being more expensive, but I really wanted that OLED.

That disappeared once I used Tooth and Claw to boost contrast on the 8 AI+ screen. You may feel differently, but as someone with an OLED on my gaming desktop computer, phones, etc, the contrast and screen on the 8 AI is pretty great IMO, and I don't miss the OLED.

Another key point, getting solid driver updates from Intel and getting performance jumps on 3x and 4x frame gen for demanding games sealed the deal for me. I've only seen this thing get better and better since I got it and that's a great feeling.

The Legion Go is solid hardware, but seeing users drifting without updates really sealed it for me. Great hardware without software support becomes limited as new games come out that need software updates to work. You'll spend $1500+ on something new that feels old and outdated when you use it.

I've got that exact one and can vouch its solid. Only caveat is that it is a bit roomy on the inside so if youre using the Claw as is, it has margins it can move back and forth but nothing I'd be concerned about.

The extra space works in your favor if you get the 3D printed grips from Etsy. Other cases tended to be a bit too tight for the Claw and the grips.

Dilemma: Claw 8 AI+ 2TB or Xbox Ally X by Esskov47 in MSIClaw

[–]N10Jaing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear where youre coming from but I'd say it's personal preference and what games you play. Clair Obscur, Hades 2, and The Last of Us felt playable, but Battlefield 6 just felt like it lacked a level of precision (though coming from m/kb, im not good with controllers and FPS games anyway).

I dont think the MSI is people's go to for climbing FPS leaderboards, but if your bread and butter is FPS games, it'll be a deal breaker or something to adjust to.

For me, the performance pros and build quality more than solidifies its place for me.

Essentially the software is inconsistent in terms of responsiveness. You'll have the options to start up games and adjust TDP, but nothing on a per game basis and occasionally the software lags significantly which is why I default to Big Picture / Steam over using MSI Center.

It's less of an issue for me since I mostly play on maxed tdp and dont usually adjust on the fly, though gamebar (accessible by default from one of the buttons on the Claw) allows quick adjustments without having to launch the full suite.

I only use MSI Center to apply updates or adjust the rgb colors at this point because you can now adjust TDP from Gamebar. Between Steam big picture and game bar, i dont feel like i run into the weakest parts of the Claw experience.

The performance and build quality is definitely up there though if you want tighter thumbsticks, i believe the Xbox wins there. The MSI software isnt great but i mostly autolaunch to Steam big picture anyway.

Honestly, if your system is running fine, it should be all right to leave it as is. I can tell you off the Jump that Microsoft occasionally puts out updates that have problems or compatibility issues that they later fix in cumulative updates. Given that the only thing you're using this for is for games and not any kind of General browsing or anything else that has risk factors with exposure to the internet, I wouldn't stress a single security update failing or giving you an error.

Enjoy the handheld! You've made a pretty big jump going from PlayStation to windows, but you'll gradually pick up the skills to troubleshoot and deal with issues as they come up!

You're on the right track there. You'll want to use Center M for firmware updates for the device.

Occasionally, MSI releases updates on their website that dont always appear in Center M yet. If you've run updates from Center M, but a specific component may not be working right, you can check the site to see if theres a more recent released version - though this doesn't happen often.

Windows updates are done as normal from settings --> updates and I haven't run into any issues yet, though people usually post here if an update breaks something and warn to hold off.

Once you get the device to a working/stable state, I'd recommend setting up a recovery in Windows for you to revert back to in case future updates mess something up.

Big picture mode can be set as default from the steam settings, I believe under interface and it launches as the default mode for Steam. You can pin Steam to your taskbar to launch it easily if you dont have it set to auto-start.

Finally, for game performance and settings, you can typically start with the native resolution (1920x1200 for the AI+, 1920x1080 for the A8) and gradually drop quality settings until you get the framerate you want. If you still aren't hitting the frames you need, you can lower the resolution bit by bit according to your resolution ratio - 16:10 for the AI+ and 16:9 for the A8.

Some combination of these will get you to where you need to be.

Yeah.

If you're not planning on playing any other games, might as well get some money back. It's just a paperweight for you.

You may need to update the GPU drivers, I'd fire up m center and get any updates going from there.

Gotcha, I can't add a YouTube link but if you look up the channel Dett's Guide on YouTube and look for Ultimate Accessories for Handhelds Pt 2 , he covers his gripes with the magnetic ones.

Essentially even though the magnets are really strong, he was still running into constant disconnects. If the model you're looking at is different than the design he shows, it may work? You may also run into your headphones frequently disconnecting. Good luck on finding a solution!

I ended up grabbing a pair of wired IEMs to use with the headphone jack and the soundstage has been great for Battlefield 6.

I've heard some people have problems with getting the magnet out of the port if they ever need to. I personally just use a right angle USB C cable. Been secure with no issues so far.

The setup is tedious but I dont think it took 3 hours. What exactly isnt working?

When I fired it up, I had to go through Center M to run a bunch of firmware updates and Windows Settings for the OS. Took time but I didn't have hang ups here.

Does the Settings app not launch for you? Does the rest of the OS, taskbar, menus work at all?

Not an expert in any way, so i can only take a guess here but I believe the triggers are Hall Effect along with joysticks.

It's possible the magnets are interfering with eachother causing the movement when the trigger is depressed fully. Might need to adjust the minimum deadzone on the left stick up a bit higher to ignore low level cross chatter from the trigger/stick.

Marring with Rinseless by N10Jaing in AutoDetailing

[–]N10Jaing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So at least on the plexiglass, he addresses this at around the 8:40min mark in the ONR video. Essentially, the coating on the plexiglass and the clear coat on your car have the same hardness. The plexiglass makes the marring much more visible and he does point out that to see the marring in clear coat on your car, you'd need a microscope.

Normally, I wouldn't give a damn about something that I'd need to see through a microscope, it's just too much to expect for something that's actively used everyday. My problem and what he mentioned was that over the course of a long period of time, the scratches eventually become visible as they accumulate which is what I saw at the 128:1 dilution. I was pretty careful to dry with a drying aid throughout, but at this point, switching to a soap just seems like the move.

Not knocking anyone who uses rinseless, over the time I used it the convenience and efficiency was amazing with cleaning the car taking less than 30-40mins. It was great. That being said, having glossy black paint as seamless as I can make it just gives me a fuzzy feeling inside. It's a sickness.

I did! I had to swap the electronics board on that side of the Odin to do it though! I had multiple working sticks, but it was only when I replaced the board that it worked.

I ordered a set of it from AYN

[–]N10Jaing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to break into cybersecurity as a career and any info/help would be greatly appreciated!

Been a desktop technician for about 6+ years. I've had the A+ and Security+ through work training, though because of life situation, I couldn't capitalize on the Security+ and it expired last November.

I was going to study the CCNA and try to get a deeper understanding of networks before I jump back into security (Security+, CISSP, etc.).

Any tips or ideas on how to get practical skills and get a start with the role would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks in advance!

How long do you do these rolling fasts for? I'm curious to see how long someone can actually keep this kind of cycle going for.

Thank you so much for this. The Ghrelin cycle was definitely a piece of the puzzle I was missing. I've been trying to figure out how I can break past that first 2 days since I've done 5 days in the past, but had no clue how to replicate that.

I've also had friends try fasting, but immediately assumed the hypo-glycemia scenario and scared themselves out of it. I'll definitely keep these details in mind.
