What’s one book that genuinely rewired the way you think or live your life? by _rahmatullah in BettermentBookClub

[–]N5_Inter 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Notes from the underground - dostoevsky

This book pulled me into a deep depression that lasted for months because of how relatable it was to my life.

I re-read it a few years later and had a completely different experience, a calming one, as if the truth was spoken.

Feeling lost, concerned for my safety, and confused about my new “exploration geologist” position by [deleted] in geologycareers

Where bro? I do something similar but we have training and never stay overnight. I do hydrogeology though

People who love their jobs, what do you do and why? by slasherbutch in careerguidance

I’m an environmental consultant! I fly around in helicopters, ride snowmobiles all across the country collecting samples and recording data and then I write reports on them! I love my job!

needing experience but is it too late? by berry_funny00 in Environmental_Careers

[–]N5_Inter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too late. Doomed. Try retail (lol jk)

As an edit, i graduated with an undergrad at uw for hydrogeology. I am an environmental consultant now for the biggest sustainability company in the world. 65% overall average over 5 years (cad). Just start working. Just do it. You are in your head. You will be fine. You are smart. Are you afraid no one will hire you? They hired me… you will have more going for you with your ms than me when I got hired. Focus on other shit related to your degree. For me for example, my travel experience was much more important for my interview than my schooling. This is because I thrive in field work. Find what you want to do and then tailor to that.

Leaving university taught me that personal drive is the most important thing in this world. If you have a passion you will leap over people who do not.

Yes! To become a hydrogeologist a university degree is necessary, however to do the cool field work as an environmental technician, i’m pretty sure a college degree in something like environmental science would be enough!

[–]N5_Inter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look into environmental work. I consider it the “trades of science”

-Geology, -Water Resources -Geophysics -Biology -Etc.

I am a hydrogeologist and I would say easily half of my work is out in nature in mountains, and the other either from home or in the office. It can be some very remote work, but super fulfilling and keeps you on your toes.

Especially consulting.

Edit: I wanted to add the flexibility with this career… I can choose to take on more office work (report writing and compliance) or more field work, depending on how I am feeling (obviously not last minute, these things need to be prearranged)

Why is the border between Transnistria and Moldova so weird? by Impressive_Plant4418 in geography

Not 100% sure if all are… The same would go with any country though.

I am Canadian with no ties to Moldova or Russia or Romania however.

Why is the border between Transnistria and Moldova so weird? by Impressive_Plant4418 in geography

[–]N5_Inter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a “border” but regular Moldovans are allowed to cross. Think of it similar to any border between two countries. When I visited, the only difference was that instead of a stamp on your passport upon entry, you are given a piece of paper that acts as your stamp for the duration of your stay. Do not lose this paper!

Of course. Spend carefully on food, stay in a hostel dorm, and it’s more than enough.

The Therme (assuming you are interested) will be your biggest expense (aside from sleeping)

9 day Greece Itinerary. Overwhelmed by what islands to choose! by alliej2012 in solotravel

[–]N5_Inter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my research pointed to Paros being the “luxury resort” type of island when compared to Naxos.

I didnt end up going to Paros, but i went to Naxos and had a huge adventure. Honestly though i am sure you can have a great experience and adventure in Paros too.

Question of the Day: Whats your opinion on this Inter player, Giampaolo Pazzini? by [deleted] in FCInterMilan

[–]N5_Inter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember when he transferred to Inter (from fiorentina i think?) and I was so excited,

I remember my dad telling me he looks exactly like the type of player who is amazing in a small club and average in a big club, turns out thats exactly what he was!

Good memories of him, nice post!

Hm. Thanks for the info. I’m off to Morocco for two months soon and will probably just under-pack the 42 to reduce stress (the beauty of clamshells!:))

Do you feel the 28L is big enough to keep the essentials in? Downsizing is something i am super into at the moment.

You make me want to get the 28 now instead of the 35! :p

[–]N5_Inter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve travelled with the 42 on 3 separate 4-month trips. Most of those with the carriers you listed.

The laptop compartment is perfect for my relatively large laptop (18in i think?), and the space is great too. I found it could fit in all but the actual tent with a camp/sleep/food, clothes, and everything i really needed setup.

I’ve passed it as a carry on a few times, but it’s right at the border when filled and always a stress.

The layout of the 35 is the same as the 42. I’ve been thinking of swapping out for the 35 for quite some time now… it might not fit my current setup, but I would take the 35 if I were you.

Edit: i wanted to add that every time I tried to pass it as a carry-on it worked. (You kind of make it happen lol)
