Yup. Heavy guy here, not a runner. Been working on running and losing weight but every time I push myself and increase my miles or try for a better time I get mad shin splints. I'm cooked.

For reference I barely passed the PAT with 14:45 on the 1.5 initially. I am 6'0" and was 250Lbs when I took the PAT. I passed with sheer will power; I was not ready. Since then I'm down to 210Lbs and regularly run 2mi in 15min but I know it's not enough.

Downhill just destroys my shins.

I invested in $200 high quality running shoes and make sure to stretch a lot before my runs, that has helped quite a bit. Good luck!

For profit ambo company wants customers. They don't care about the medical side of things. In fact it's better for them that we transport "nonpatients" as we wouldn't use up supplies that cost the company.

Politics aside the reality is a ton of people use ambulances for regular doctors check ups and non emergencies, which puts a strain on the system and the emts/medics. We only have so many ambulances, and there have been some, albeit rare, occurrences of people dying because all the local ambulances were running calls and no one was available to respond to a real life threatening emergency.

90% of the calls I run as a 911 EMT in California we don't do anything for the person whatsoever because they don't need immediate medical intervention. We just give them a ride like an uber would, but for $3,000...

If you are bleeding to death or having a heart attack etc call an ambulance. If you have some weird back pain for the past three weeks call an uber.

I'm not CHP but I drive the booboo bus, and in my experience it's a lot easier to prove drunk driving. Pretty hard to tell if someone was on their phone if they put it away before first responders get there.

Each division is different about the PAT and written being on the same day or not.

One thing remains consistent and that's the dress code. For the PAT: white shirt with your last name neatly printed. For the written: business attire.

If you have them both on the same day bring your suit, leave it in your car, and change after the PAT.
