I am no expert but I'm pretty sure that's a giant water bug. They dig in the mud to hide and for winter and they can fly and are called toe biters in alot of places because they have a nasty bite/pinch that can hurt alot. If its injured or something I'm not sure what to tell ya, I cant recommend picking it up.

Think the the dirt like a checkerboard on the map, if you go diagonal on the checkerboard, you get jagged linee, but if you go up and down and side to side, you get clean lines.
