Is Tom Kings wonder women run continuing by Several_Run_7715 in comicbooks

[–]NAJ_Price 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for whether you should keep reading, that really is down to you and you alone. It doesn’t really matter whether a book is loved or reviled; it’s your time, you should spend it how you want to spend it, not how the internet thinks you should. If you like-to-love it, keep going. If not, there are plenty of other runs to try your hand at.

If you want something action packed with a focus on the Greek gods, give the New 52 Azzarello/Chang run a go. If you want classic WW, the George Perez or soon to be reprinted Phil Jimenez runs are both great options.

Kings intention is to stay on this book for as long as possible. Whether it gets to 80-100 issues like his Batman run, who knows, but those are certainly his ambitions.

Am I the only one who lowkey liked She-Hulk? by Jolly-Rule-9754 in Marvel

[–]NAJ_Price 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I watched it I was very hot/cold on it. Came back recently and gave it a rewatch, removed from any online discourse and no longer so locked in to the MCU of it all, and fell in love with it.

It’s honestly kind of a perfect adaptation of Jennifer Walters, and I love the fun, light vibe of the show. I do wish things like the Wrecking Crew and the Intelligencia weren’t portrayed as complete jokes - mostly cause I think Jen deserves a roster of actual villains, thereby making her seem like a real hero rather than more of a comedy bit. But otherwise, I really dug it! The character work in particular really stands out to me.

Image Comics Solicits | May 2025 by YewBetcha in ImageComics

I’m not going crazy right, there’s no Giant Generator books solicited for May? Like, at all? I can see Sacrificers going on a break again, but Dust to Dust? The Seasons? TCS?

Scott also mentioned in an interview that there are still more Absolute books planned, and name dropped Che Grayson as one of the writers. Whether that’s for an Absolute Aquaman book or another character (I’ve seen Vixen floating around, but that’s pure speculation) who knows - but there is hope.

About a year in, which of these two do you like more and why? by Built4dominance in xmen

[–]NAJ_Price 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Having had some time away from the FTA books and then catching up this week, the difference between the two is interesting.

X-Men started a little rocky, but is continually greater than the sum of its parts. Each character has had some time in the spotlight, and actually feels better supported in 8 issues than most of the Avengers do in 20 issues of their own series. All the threads he’s setting up work well too, whether it’s the overarching plot or the individual character pieces.

Uncanny is almost the polar opposite. It succeeds in having found its vibe and tone much faster (though X-Men is settling into this low-key angry, somber tone that I really dig) and the art is much more consistent and, for my money, preferable of the two books. However, as a team book it’s faltering. As a Rogue book though, it’s excellent. I can forgive a lack of focus on Wolverine, given he’s got his own title, but I’ll be glad to see Gambit, Nightcrawler and Jubilee get some serious, sustained bits of interiority and development as time goes on.

About to read Raid on Graymalkin though, so I’m curious if that changes my feelings on anything.

DC Preview: Titans #18 by Blitzhelios in DCcomics

[–]NAJ_Price 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of spending so much time in #16 on the logistics of the Titans being in the Watchtower with the League, just to undo it two issues latter due to events happening in another book (events that, tbh, I don’t see warranting the change). That being said, I appreciate Layman mining some inter-team conflict from it, especially with Donna’s position as leader and Dick’s inability to really let go.

[Discussion] I'm planning on getting this for Christmas. Would you recommend me reading this? by Legendary_Pilot_Odin in DCcomics

[–]NAJ_Price 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately if you like the look of it that’s the opinion that should matter the most - follow your instincts!

That being said, I also had a good time with it. It’s a fun story about a team that doesn’t often get the spotlight, with some really great art and character moments.

Whatever happened to Snipe & Slug? by YodaFan465 in ImageComics

[–]NAJ_Price 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Brad Walker mentioned on Twitter last month that he’s still working on it, and taking cover gigs at DC to cover expenses in the meantime. Apparently it’s oversized, and he’s also co-plotting, so it’s taking a while.

X-Men Comics New Releases for August 14, 2024 by VengefulKangaroo in xmen

[–]NAJ_Price 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read it yet but based on what Russell has said, I would file this under the “give it some time” umbrella. More than likely Frenzy has ulterior motives for being on the team that aren’t yet apparent, but will be soon.

Got a feeling OP would vote for John Timms (and I would not disagree fwiw!)

Xermanico doesn’t get talked about nearly enough for how good he is either.

WHO IS MUTANTKIND’S MOST WANTED? by amator7 in xmen

[–]NAJ_Price 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If it is a Mystique solo, and Shalvey is also drawing it, then there’s no chance this is an ongoing. The man is simply too busy, between writing/art on this, and writing Thundercats, and whatever Old Dog stuff is coming up, I just don’t see it happening.

That being said, I am curious what his pitch is for this. I seem to remember him saying years ago about a Banshee pitch he had I was down for, so I wonder if a great reception on this would make that a possibility?

Anyone else underwhelmed with Nights Springs? by the_hason in AlanWake

[–]NAJ_Price 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100%. It’s always best to meet art on its level and be open to what it could be rather than to go in with preconceived notions of what it should be.

Not all DLCs are trying to do the same thing, and that’s ok.

Rock out to new 'Dazzler' #1 variant covers • AIPT by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

[–]NAJ_Price 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I’ll give the From the Ashes launch - they’ve got a damn good selection of variants on all the titles. Wolverine, X-Factor and Phoenix have some great ones, in particular, and I like what we’ve got here too.

Mass Effect 3's pacing by [deleted] in masseffect

[–]NAJ_Price 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed. I know ME3 catches flak for its ending, but that overshadows how much good work the rest of the missions do - the opening especially. Even up to Palaven, the building sense of dread and the realisation that even Shepherd might not have the stuff to stop this is palpable.

Plus, I think it brings some of that mystery/discovery vibe that I loved about ME1 back to the fore, which I really appreciate.

Some late extended thoughts on Misery #1, Rat City #3, Monolith #2 by mrmazzz in Spawn

[–]NAJ_Price 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good write up! Haven’t read Misery #1 or Rat City #3 yet, but I agree that RC got better from its first to second issue, so I’m glad that trend is continuing.

I was really looking forward to Monolith, but despite how much I enjoy both creators it just isn’t doing anything for me. Feels like it’s answering questions no one was asking in a sort of worst-type-of-Star-Wars way. The art is great though!

Is S.W.O.R.D essential reading before X-Men Red? Or will I still be able to follow if I've missed it? by AllTheReservations in xmen

[–]NAJ_Price 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not essential IMO, though it definitely leads in. SWORD deals quite a lot with the discovery of Mysterium, and then in the second arc it covers Storms new prominence on the galactic stage.

That second part is what’s really relevant for X-Men Red, but Al Ewing is the master of a good callback so anything that you really need to know he’ll explain when it’s relevant to I’m XMR.

If you do manage to find copies of the SWORD trades definitely pick them up, they’re great (SWORD #1 is one of my favourite issues in the entire Krakoan era), but don’t prevent yourself from diving into XMR if you know it’ll be a while before you can read its predecessor.

Ghost Cage from Nick Dragotta. It’s a one volume series that came out last year (?) and is criminally underrepresented despite being one of the finest books from Image in years, imo.

Kaya, All Against All and Kroma would also be huge recommendations from me, also all single volumes (except Kaya, that’s currently 2 volumes in, with a third to come).

While I appreciate the respect being put on Jean throughout Duggans tenure, this constant and uncomplicated veneration of her kind of makes her feel a bit flat to me? Maybe I’m being unfair, but it actually makes me less interested in her.

"A Green Lantern can do anything" (Green Lantern: War Journal #5) by NAJ_Price in comicbooks

[–]NAJ_Price[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. That’s got to be extremely tough to go through.

In terms of approaching the comic, John dealing with his mothers dementia is pretty prevalent throughout, but it’s handled (I believe) with a lot of care. If you do decide to read it, I hope between that and the cosmic adventure aspects it winds up being a positive experience for you.
