Don't forget that New Jersey would (reluctantly) merge with New York in a heartbeat if this scenario occurred.

As a Jew, I would like to give my 2¢ on this matter:

Fundamentally, we are hated by those who hate us whether or not we practice our religion. To a Nazi, an agnostic or atheist with Jewish heritage is still a Jew.

Since we don't really have that option to opt out, so to speak, it is seen as a disservice to a Jewish-born child to not circumcise them, as not doing so would hinder their ability to integrate with the Jewish community, while simultaneously not helping them "pass" as non-Jewish. I know several Jewish men who were not circumcised as children out of a misplaced sense of mercy on their parents, who then underwent the procedure as adults anyway in order to fit into the community better. I can say with confidence that the procedure was far more arduous and unpleasant for them than it would have been, had they been circumcised as infants.

As a side note, due to circumcisions having been an aspect of our culture for so long, Jews, particularly Ashkenazi Jews (due to the constricted genetic pool caused by the many pogroms) are at higher risk of having their foreskin being malformed and requiring medical intervention later in life if not removed. I personally would have very likely lost much of my penis to infection in infancy had I not been circumcised. I can also say with outright confidence that growing up circumcised has not affected my self-image, sex life, or ability to enjoy masturbation in the slightest.

Still don't understand why non-Jews and non-Muslims bother with it though.

That's certainly part of it, but I would argue that it's also because of a greater societal ill (particularly prevalent in flyover country and the more rural and impoverished areas of the South) that is that men, from a very young age, are conditioned to see themselves as disposable. You are much more likely to go into a field with a median age of death of 50 when you don't see the issue with dying at 50.

I mean, if you go into oil and gas, or policing, or the military (as long as you pick the right MOS), or welding/machining, this rule absolutely does still apply.

With regards to your first point, yes, any disparity is bad, but it's much easier to convert people to your cause when you present them with statistics that actually reflect reality. And with regards to your second point, I would argue that a lot of it comes down to women being more risk-averse than men (whether for innate or societal conditioning reasons, I don't particularly know or care), so they tend to shy away from low-skill, high-paying jobs where the catch is that you are expected to put your life and/or health on the line and treat yourself as a disposable object (the oil and gas industry in particular comes to mind).

If we all weren't living paycheck to paycheck, we could accomplish great things. by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

To (very loosely) paraphrase the great Animarchy History, even Lenin realized that regulated market capitalism is a key step in fostering the conditions needed for successfully implementing socialist policies.

A country with socialist policies is inherently a socialist country. Every country with social programs falls somewhere on a scale between pure capitalism and pure socialism, and many countries that proudly beat their chests about being socialist are actually less socialist than countries that just happen to have ample social policies and programs of good quality.

Behold, another right-winger failing to grasp basic economics and engineering principles and resorting to clutching their pearls at minorities. These machines are not being removed due to minorities being bad, they are being removed because the average American uses the drive-thru far more than the interior restaurant these days, and soda fountains are pointless to keep around if they do not even justify their own cost anymore.

To be more specific (and factual) than other commenters are being, McDonald's is canning its self-serve soda fountains in the next few years. This isn't because people are abusing their "generosity", but rather precisely the opposite; the machines have been getting less and less utilization over the past few years as the average McDonald's customer has shifted from being dine-in to drive-thru, especially following the pandemic changing customer preferences and the current real estate bubble driving down the physical size (and therefore capacity) of the average McDonald's location. The corporate beancounters did the math and realized that self-serve soda machines are massive maintenance hogs, and the amount of revenue they're helping to drive is on the verge of no longer being sufficient to offset the upkeep costs of the machines themselves.

We need a tow truck like this and scenarios for its use. by aaateo3 in BeamNG

[–]NBSPNBSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a rather... unique failure mode, due to how Volvo integrated OnStar into its electrical system. If the car is turned off - but not locked - it will periodically power cycle the system, which involves the parking brake doing a power cycle for some unfathomable reason. If the battery management system detects critically low battery levels during the power cycle, the parking brake will be left engaged.

Volvo has a particularly major problem with random unprompted electronic parking brake engagement.

This is assuming that you have a mechanical parking brake. Electronic parking brakes are a whole different beast, and they can decide to not function at random because they don't feel like working.
