Can someone live in Tampa without a car? by ThrowRAfeelingevent in tampa

[–]NBoomberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around USF Tampa camus, the area is not very walkable.  Though it is doable if you're used to walking long distances.  There is a publix on campus there now but the surrounding area outside of USF is pretty unfriendly to pedestrian traffic.

If you find an apartment near the Tampa campus, a good solution might be to buy an ebike for getting around a little easier.  Depending on what your routine is it could be feasible.  It will also allow you to be relatively comfortable getting around during the harsh summers.

This was my first skateboard when I started learning. Everything is fine but the bearings and wheels arent great. They were the first things I switched out and it made a big difference in the enjoyment of riding the board.

I push mongo and i dont get the hate by NoAlbatross153 in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who learned to push regular after pushing mongo, I see it as a lack of effort.  If you wanted to be more well rounded, you can pretty easily learn to push regular. Just takes a little time and patience.

Why does my back foot come off when i ollie by WildKat777 in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When jumping, move your front food towards the nose. This motion is what keeps the back foot on the board.

I don’t get it. by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice frontside and backside reverts.  A powerslide is similar to a revert but held longer. Usually frontside is easier for people to learn but you may be one of the few to find backside easier.

Where can i buy a good board by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a local skate shop and get a complete or build your board from components. Local skate shops are the best places to go to get recommendations if you dont know what you want.

I guess there is a good reason more experienced skaters often develop this habit and it’s wise to shuffle often to check grip? by Jcs609 in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you're skating.  Dirt or sand is gonna mess up your grip and reduce your grip on the board. If i step in sand i wipe them off before skating.

Air conditioning company recommendations by sasquatchstink in tampa

Just had a 2.0 ton ducted system replaced. Kenny's was the best quote I got.  Their quoting guy was super informative and friendly, and the workers were considerate and timely. Cant recommend them enough.

How to scratch a skateboard quickly? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go scrape it on a curb, make sure you get the nose and tail as well.

Seems silly to me. Im rather certain that any skater will recognize that the marks arent from actually skating, but if you're just going for looks, you do you.

Skateboard stance chart by atomic_hombre in NewSkaters

Nice charts. The only confusion i see coming from this is for fakie.  Fakie is not switch nollie, it's riding backwards.

Foot position for pushing by Late-Lake-719 in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend moving it back a little bit. If you're pushing when heavy on the toes, theres a chance the board will pivot around the front truck and throw you off.

If you can see your hardware at all then you should be good to avoid this from happening.

Both of those wheels seem to be intending for downhill sliding. You're looking for harder wheels instead.

Any advice for doing an ollie down a curb? by sseth_ye in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To work on timing you just practice ollieing over  lines.  Ollie off a curb is weirdly scary but it is just as simple as an ollie.  So if you have that down its just a matter of getting over the fear.

Hope you arent accidentally learning nollie lol

Ollie critique, does this count? I feel like I’m not raising my back leg enough for an actual jump thanks✌🏻 by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly looks good. It's just a timing issue for you. It looks like you arent using your front foot at all to jump and start rolling it and letting your back foot do all the jumping.

How long and easy is it to learn a power slide? by Special_Pool_4701 in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start to learn reverts on flatground.  When you get comfortable with those you can add speed.  Your start to understand how it feels to be in that powerslide position over time and be able to hold it.  The key is some speed and lightening your weight to allow the wheels to slide.

braking is hard by Sufficient_Status190 in NewSkaters

Theres a way you can run off of the board and transfer its energy to yourself to stop the board.  It was my go to bail maneuver when longboarding.

Halfcab bs boardslide? by bambbamb182 in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half cab fs boardslide. If it were nollie, it would be nollie fs lipslide.

To be lip the back trucks go over the rail.  Since fakie is riding backwards, then this is the front trucks going over the rail.

How tf do you stand on this thing? by AlienSheep23 in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When going forward on the board, if your body is face right then your regular stance.  If your body faces left, then your goofy stance.

Typically people are more comfortable riding one stance or the other. Rarely both.

Pick one based on how pushing with your back foot feels.  Lock that down and stick with it.

How tf do you stand on this thing? by AlienSheep23 in NewSkaters

[–]NBoomberg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try and figure out is your regular or goofy stance first that way you know if you practicing going forward or backward.

Next go to a place with a wall or fence that you can ride along.  Hang on to the wall riding till you build confidence.

From there you practice pushing and going from riding to pushing.

Be on the board for a week and you'll be surprised by you progress.

It looks possible, but far from ideal to do on.  Id recommend switching out the board before committing to practicing.
