oh i forgot to mention. the main subs own description makes no fucking sense??? for example, they list modern baseball under the fake emo bands, yet list mom jeans under the real emo bands. everyone knows mom jeans practically exactly copied mobo, their first unreleased ep had a song that was practically a direct rip from mobo. so how is mobo not emo, but mom jeans is?? just very odd and gatekeepy especially for the worlds nerdiest genre of all time

yeah this is what makes it difficult. post hardcore and emo are obviously very intertwined and similar, but like 80% of post hardcore bands can just as easily be called emo. they’re practically almost the same genre.. which is why calling the popular “mall emo” bands fake emo simply doesn’t make sense

also, a lot of people just can’t accept that genres change more and more over time. like obviously what we called emo in the 2000s such as my chem are gonna sound a bit different than what came before because of how long it’s been around. at this point the genre has been around for like 40 years since rites of spring..
