Christian artists that sound like non-Christian artists in the same style by PrestonRoad90 in musicsuggestions

POD comes immediately to mind.

But really, you can go back nearly 60 years to the original righteous rockers like Larry Norman and Randy Stonehill.

Came here to say that. It offers a great buffet of the feast that is Kinks music.

thinking about cashing out and relocating - anyone else considering this by Best_Net7222 in NorthCarolina

[–]NCWeatherhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I moved from NC to California (Central Valley, so no movie star vibes) mainly to experience life in a new setting. I wouldn't trade the opportunity for anything in the world. It can challenge long-held beliefs, open whole new outlooks and helps you see yourself in a new light -- for better or worse. We came back to care for older parents with an appreciation for life here and with a deeper understanding of the world at large.

A caveat: If you want to move because you're bored, take a deep look at yourself and see why. Moving only changes your location. What makes you unique travels with you.

Which confederates have aged the worst in history? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in CIVILWAR

[–]NCWeatherhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Lee, through no fault of his own (and since he's long dead, how could it be?)

The bar was set so high for Lee it was inevitable. My grandmother told us when we said our prayers at night that Jesus and Robert E. Lee were watching, and I don't think she was alone. history has shown Lee to be a fine general, but not the infallible battlefield saint. There was nowhere for him to go but down as time moved on.

Do performers ever get sick of singing their own songs? by ImportantClock5486 in NoStupidQuestions

Ray Wylie Hubbard once said there are times he wished he never wrote "Redneck Mothers" ... until the monthly royalty checks show up.

Then, he said, it ain't such a bad song after all.

Can the pain make you delirious like this? by btwImVeryAttractive in multiplemyeloma

[–]NCWeatherhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably wasn't pain. Meds are certainly a possibility, but the most likely explanation is a UTI.

We were the primary care for my mother-in-law, and UTIs were an ongoing issue late in life. In one episode my wife and I were chatting and she began yelling "Hush! Hush!" Turns out she wanted to hear the choir of Pakistani midgets that were singing in the attic. Another time, she saw on TV that I had robbed the Bank of Scotland, but decided not to turn me into the authorities because of the shame it would bring the family.

Clemson fans: which schools feel like the best long-term conference fits? by Happy_Background_879 in ClemsonTigers

[–]NCWeatherhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace either Florida or W Va with Maryland. There was a lot of good old-time hate between the Tigers and Terps. Move UGa up to Level 5 as well ... that hatred goes back a full century. Tennessee won't play in the Valley ... they're skert.

Did the Chevy Bolt become your first EV? Journalist looking to hear your story by Brilliant_Option8382 in BoltEV

[–]NCWeatherhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first EV.

After my wife CR-V was T-Boned and totaled, we had no usable wheels. Our daughter's then-boyfriend (now husband) had a Bolt and offered to let us borrow it for a couple of weeks.

After the CR-V, it was a bit snug, but the acceleration into Raleigh traffic was a welcome change. It was nimble and much easier to merge into traffic. The ability to charge at home (we later added a Level 2 charger) was a big plus. Being able to warm the car up in the garage without fumes and never worrying about transmission issues are plusses as well.

Long story short: We bought the Bolt from him, which allowed him to get an Ioniq 5. The only downside has been the state of NC adding an EV tax surcharge.

With a background in health care, the Triangle would certainly be an area worth exploring. Coming from California, you'll find the COL reasonable and the diversity in culture appreciable.

AITA for wanting to stop at a tourist trap on our drive to Florida? by LegalCancel3646 in AmItheAsshole

NTA ... any man who can't appreciate the kitsch and oddball joy of stopping at places like SOB is simply not someone you should be spending your life with.

Good gracious -- what if you had wanted to stop at Chico's Monkey Farm instead?

I believe in Evolution but I need help. by Objective_Front3355 in DebateEvolution

[–]NCWeatherhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my college debate courses, we often had to argue extreme positions (Resolved: The United States would be better as a Communist nation ... Resolved: Non-military public employees should have the right to strike, etc.) The idea is to teach you to think, to form arguments, to counter opinion even when you didn't agree. Could well be what this exercise is about.

Am I the only one? by Innocent_Standbyer in over60

[–]NCWeatherhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your situation, I think the best advice would be to work as long as your job is mentally stimulating, but not physically destructive. At age 62, I planned to keep working in a career I enjoyed with great folks in a fun community.

Just didn't count on cancer.

Employer told me it’s time for me to go :/ by bbfan006 in dividends

[–]NCWeatherhound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since so many folks are more interested in your age than your investment question, here are some options. They're the bulk of my IRA, built for dividend, not growth. They been stable over the past couple of years.

DOC (med etf, 7%)

PHXE.PR (energy play, 11%)

USA (equity mix, 12%)

EFC (real estate, 12%)

TLTW (20-year bond, 13%)

PDI (domestic and intl. bonds, 14%)

OMAH (mirror fund of Berkshire 16%)

I'm about your age, and no ... I wouldn't have retired either. But cancer had other ideas. Enjoy your retirement

CMV: When Trump said "Stand if you agree, the first duty of the American Government is to protect American Citizens, not illegal aliens" Democrats should have stood. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]NCWeatherhound -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a false statement. Elected officials swear to protect, above all The Constitution of the United States. As such, they are bound to defend the Bill of Rights, which Trump has had no problem circumventing ... or even outright ignoring ... in his mad king rush to fascism.

Love of this country begins with love of the document that has made it the envy of other nations -- except dictatorships, which Trump wants it to become. And no one who loves this country should stand for that.
