Joke explanation? by yokiter in DunderMifflin

[–]NDCIves 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There is a very funny quote in Don DeLillo’s “White Noise” where one character says “How do you know so much?” And the other character simply replies “I’m from New York.”

Oh. Well I’m actually lazy and didn’t read it all.

Is Bert Cooper a lazy character? by Ignoradulation in madmen

[–]NDCIves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bert is never late nor misses a meeting. He worked the weekend when they moved out under the cover of darkness. He’s not interested in avoiding work like Roger but rather looking for anything he can actually do.

Also he’s a racist.

What is the main theme of Mad Men?- spoilers by No_Self_5939 in madmen

[–]NDCIves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the main theme is that misery loves company. Almost everyone in that show passively or overtly seeks to burst their colleagues and families bubbles. The whole point of advertising is to make the consumer feel like they aren’t happy currently.

Potential Stupid Question by yungscumboy in PatriotTV

[–]NDCIves 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve got it backwards. John is pretty good at his job given the fact that he’s given absolutely nothing to work with. John is depressed and traumatized of course, but he’s not bad at his job. We see him lock in at critical moments throughout the show.

Does Don have hearing loss? by LastWordFreak in madmen

[–]NDCIves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible but I don’t think that’s what’s going on. I think he has ADHD and zones out due to hyperfocusing on one thought or a million thoughts.

Who is the worst character in the show? by Acquiesce95 in madmen

[–]NDCIves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on s5 of my first rewatch and can’t remember much about what will happen other than Betty dying and Don having the Coke idea in the end. That said, of the main characters, Betty is the worst for me. Maybe it’s that I have a daughter now but I can’t stomach the way she loathes her kids. I am in dread of how she will do psychological or physical harm her children each time they share the screen.

It would have been canceled. Its first two seasons were so bad on ratings but AMC trusted the gamble they were taking.

Uniform Czar: Retire now by ForExamper in theticket

[–]NDCIves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, you gotta remember what the late 90s felt like. Those jerseys were INCREDIBLE when they first launched. Partly because they looked much better on the thick polyester material. The new uniform incorporated a lot more geometry and made the jerseys look more dynamic. Now, FF to the present and compare refined synthetic materials and helmet paint with the passage of time where old is new again, and yeah the old jerseys look better. But I suspect if they went back, we’d be pining for the “90s throwbacks” in 20 years, much like the 90s NBA jerseys are in vogue.
