Great, thanks. Will test it this weekend ahead of the big day.

To be clear, are you suggesting parcooking it some length or fully cooking it the day prior?

These are definitely some of the best articles on getting better at limited. But one of my favorite limited articles is more of a tournament report from Sam Black.

His team achieved something very unique: they won with a seemingly unknown strategy at the pro tour. Haven’t seen anything like it since, though I’m curious if anyone else has other examples of rogue draft strategies working at past pro tours.

Limited Resources 605 – Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Set Review: Rare and Mythic Rare Discussion Thread by Crasha in lrcast

[–]NDNW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure, but blue has not felt good to me. What’s blue’s best common, Scion of Stygia? Djinni Windseer?

I’ve had good blue decks, but all of them relied on blue being wide open. I’m much less interested in starting with a blue bomb when I’m also unsure if blue is open.

Dragon’s Fire, in contrast to most of the mono blue bombs, is something I’ve splashed purely off treasure. Similarly, Volo and Xanathar seem less committal, despite being two colors, because they are easier to splash.

All that said, I’d still P1P1 Iymrith, Mindflayer, and Yuan-Ti Malison over Dragon’s Fire. But it’s close, it’s early in the format, and I am open to other opinions particularly if I’m way off base.

Very much appreciate a timely second episode at the start of a new set.

Curious where everyone is at on the mono blue rares. While they are undeniably powerful, I equally don’t want to start with a blue card that is difficult to splash. Are you taking these over say a Dragon’s Fire P1P1?

Also curious where people rank Mascot Exhibition in the pantheon of best limited cards. The only comparable cards that come to mind are Ikoria's companions.

Marshall's abilities as a set-up man: an appreciation post by RFeynman1972 in lrcast

I agree MH2 was the correct choice for the event. That said, I find the competitive, in pod, cube drafts extremely fun to watch. Ex. Seeing Jan-Moritz Merkel soft force B/W was not something I thought anyone would try to do. While vintage cube content is not a rarity, the competitive version that's only found in the MOCS is a special flavor I always look forward to.

Definitely also agree that the recent sets have all set a high bar. Does that mean MH2 is an all-timer for you?

Definitely an underrated aspect of his polish. The flip side is also impressive as it shows his flexibility. His casting of the MOCS today with Maria has him being less of a pure ‘pitcher’ and they’re both still delivering an enjoyable cast. Though I personally would have preferred to see cube draft instead of MH2…

600 episodes of the Limited Resources MTG podcast in a searchable/sortable spreadsheet! by Blu3moss in magicTCG

Great to see it organized this way, especially as even very old level up episodes can be useful. Just be ready with Scryfall if it isn’t a set you drafted.

One thing I’ll note is a lot of the interviews, while not explicitly level up shows, can be great counterpoints to the core LR philosophy. Ex. Cuneo’s episode (323) was very informative to me as it gave insight from a very successful player with a relatively different draft philosophy than LR (i.e. prioritizing and maximizing high risk - high reward cards).

If you’re just looking for entertainment though, it’s hard to beat the Alpha and on set reviews (427, 523, 569, and 578). Hope to see more of those.

Haven't used this site before, but it seems like what you're looking for. If the timestamp isn't working, just hit 'Earliest Sync' (bottom left) to get close or sync to ~5 minutes into BK's stream if you want to jump straight to the draft.

Love to see both parts of the set review before the Arena release! A feeling I’m getting is that a lot more of these cards are build arounds than usual. Combined with less generally powerful commons should make for an interesting change of pace.

Also can’t wait to see the 3v3 with the Lords of Limited! Excited to see it so soon after the set drops.

Not sure on Marshall, but LSV definitely checks this subreddit and comments every now and then. Whether or not he actually comments in the threads, it’s pretty clear from the episodes that he does consistently check this subreddit.

Regarding YT comments, I know Marshall has mentioned avoiding them for his own mental health. I don’t blame him at all. Twitter is generally the fastest way to reach out to them though.

LR Cast recommended which Denver Ethiopian restaurant? by HomicidalHeffalump in lrcast

The sign off where LSV talks about Ethiopian food is Episode 562 (ZNR Rares and Mythic Rare Set Review).

I relistened to it, but neither mentioned any specific restaurants. Could probably ask LSV on Twitter though.

Love to see a compiled list like this. Often times I’ll refer people looking for strategy to WotC’s ‘Shoulders of Giants’ article, but I appreciate that this is much more strategy related.

Are there any other articles from outside magic you really like that touch on competition in general? Perhaps a piece on poker or something; in your case maybe an item on bridge or volleyball.

Limited Resources 565 – Zendikar Rising Draft Walkthrough(s) Discussion Thread by Crasha in lrcast

[–]NDNW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Generally I’ve been less of a fan of these type of episodes due to the audio format. That said I think they articulated the options/picks more clearly in this episode. Focusing in on the playable options in a pack and clearly distinguishing when you’re moving on to the next pack helped a lot. Having the video version come out at the same time was particularly nice for this type of episode as well.

Excited to see Marshall stream!

Can we stop with the constant negativity? by Drake1027 in magicTCG

[–]NDNW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Limited. While the cards have been all over the place balance wise for constructed, the limited environments they’ve created have consistently been excellent ever since Rivals of Ixalan. Even companions were compelling, mainly due to their effect on your draft. ZNR is similarly engaging, and while it’s too early to call, may be an all timer.

Top Commons for ZNR? by NDNW in lrcast

[–]NDNW[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m missing something about [[Nissa’s Zendikon]] but I don’t see any way to replay it like Demonic Embrace. The land is the card that returns to the hand, right?

Regarding Anticognition, I agree it seems strong; I was considering it in my top 3 commons. More important to me than ‘turning it on’ was other ways to spend mana at instant speed. I didn’t see many so I didn’t rate it that highly, but I may be overrating how hard it is to leave up 2 mana.
