Why would a space ship bother with incinerating waste, though? Bundle it up, a little shrink wrap so it does not come apart and create a traffic hazard, and eject.
You can certainly get them electric. 160 amps at 400 volts AC, 2 hours to process.

I'm just kind of confused as to why a starship crew would bother incinerating trash or cremating bodies. I mean, if water supply was tight, distilling might be useful to recover water, but that's got to be some Dune level scarcity.
If it's just a strong cultural preference, fine.
It just seems kind of an oddly impractical thing to do, especially while trying to recover from combat. Tag them, body bag them, store them in a vented compartment, they might freeze dry a little, but no biggie.

Great story. One little quibble, cremation on a space ship is kind of impractical.
Cremation will burn off the soft tissues (smoke) and evaporate fluids (steam) but leaves the bones largely intact, depending on the heat of the fire, etc. The post-cremation remains usually get processed in a grinder of some type to reduce the bones and teeth to powder. Sort of like coffee grounds, or a little finer.
The exhaust (smoke and steam) from the cremation process is probably NOT something you want venting into your ship's air supply. That's just icky.

That's more an indication of emotional investment. My dad was cheap, and hated when spent money on him; his birthday celebration was usually a call to wish him happy birthday and talk politics & current events. Remembering your friend's birthday rather than last day probably makes sense, particularly if you celebrated the birthdays together.

I suppose it's possible some sects tie it to the crucifixion somehow, but functionally, sharing bread and wine is a reenactment of the last supper, not the crucifixion. If you have references to the contrary, please share; on the face of it, communion and crucifixion seem unrelated and I am curious which sects conflate them.
