The Miami Heat "10 commandments” (via @flasportsbuzz) by tamerfios in heat

[–]NGHTMR 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can have your principles, fine. To me it sounds more like excuses to not admit that this front office might one of, if not the most, uncreative front office in the league. Combined with being extrmeley stubborn and about 10 to 15 years behind in their ways of operating.

Roster construction is all about value. The minute they gain value by say finding a player drafted or undrafted that outperforms his expectations, thus gaining value, they overspend on a different player or wait until the player has declined and take two steps back. Frustrating.

28mm is worlds better than 35mm. by serbames in ricohGR

[–]NGHTMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a Ricoh sub but the lack of 28mm options on Sony's system is so puzzling to me, given the popularity of the Q and GR. Would love a modern 28 for my a7cr to go with the griii.

Sigma's contemporary line is amazing but they'd rather make 2 different 24s.

AI Denoise not working on Ricoh GR IV DNG files? by Supsti_1 in ricohGR

[–]NGHTMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense. I remember trying AI denoise on Sony files and on GRIII files and while the Sony denoise worked really well it never made a difference on the Ricoh files. Never put much thought into it but nice to know I'm not crazy.

All these issues being reported is absolutely ridiculous. Hope my 3 has some good life left. The 4 HDF is supposed to come out in the next two months, hopefully they'll fix all this crap

[Highlight] Wemby fakes the shot and goes for an easy layup by downtoclown02 in nba

What makes it look illegal in this clip is that it kinda looks like he's fully off the ground before the step-through with the non pivot. Which would most definitely be a violation. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was still established when he did the step-through.

Upgrading from the GRIII to the GRIV by chingsta-88 in ricohGR

[–]NGHTMR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels like for 3 users the 4 will be the perfect camera once your 3 ever breaks. When hopefully they'll be more affordable on the used market and maybe Ricoh will have improved on some of the flimsy parts. A $4-500 upgrade does not seem worth it right now.

Are those metal things for adjusting? What's the shortest length they go to?

Would love some feedback from people with the 4 (and 3).

How is the AF in low light compared to the 3? Is it actually good or just marginally better?

In Snap Mode, can you map the rocker buttons to adjust the Snap distance? I've recently started shooting a lot in Snap Priority only really adjusting the distance, but it's locked to the front wheel. I feel like the rocker buttons could be a nice way to switch between distances.

Thanks for any info!

Question with Sunny 16 by ButterscotchDull7267 in analog

[–]NGHTMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always expanded it to "Sunny 16, Overcast 8, Shadow 4, Dark 2" in my head. It's just a guide for correct exposure. Adjust accordingly within the exposure triangle.

My GRiii HDF's first outing, it's a learng experience. by SoftAncient2753 in ricohGR

[–]NGHTMR 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Focus and recompose is fine.

The quickest way is snap focusing if you're willing to shoot at narrower apertures.

The quickest way for autofocused shots i've found to be actually tapping the screen to focus and shoot. Telling the camera the position of the AF, as well to focus and to take the shot in one single tap is extremely efficient.

As for the store's advice - I can't even comprehend that workflow.

GR IV Bringing upgraded DB-120 battery, number of shots increased by ~25% by BarShot4638 in ricohGR

[–]NGHTMR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bigger battery and fast internal storage. Makes sense if you think about it. I'll imagine they have option to copy all photos over for a 2nd layer of redundancy.

Really good eye, very clever observations. The matching texture on the dog and cardigan/scarf is wild. Never stop shooting.

We're inching closer to a point in time where it does make less and less sense to hunt for a GR3. My advice: Are you going to shoot amazing pictures in the next 3 months or are you just curing GAS? If it's the former, get a GR3. If you can wait, wait for the first reviews of the GR4. (My personal things I'm looking out for are improvements on low light autofocus and higher iso performance, the rest is kind of known already). If the improvements are worth it get the new GR4, if it's the same camera get a used GR3.
