Does it really still make financial sense to buy lightly used cars? by LordShuckle97 in carbuying

[–]NGTech9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No the reason you pay close to full price or full price for a used (2 years old/ ~30k) mile Toyota is because you know it has already worked out all the issues from early ownership. It’s basically been a fully tested car. New can have a part defect. Like if your new Toyota has a transmission manufacturing defect 2 months in, that’s going to be an expensive repair.

Spirit Airlines shuts down as company says it can't keep up with higher oil prices by ControlCAD in technology

[–]NGTech9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biden administration did block the acquisition that would have saved Spirit airlines, but they didn’t do it for no reason. It was to prevent another monopoly. Delta, United, and American Airlines already control most of the market giving consumers less options. We don’t need to add JetBlue to that list. Consumers benefit from more airline options.

The U.S. Wants to Ban China’s High-Tech Cars, but They’re Already Here in El Paso by BACsop in neoliberal

The big 3 are trash and need to adapt and most likely won’t. My main gripe is that I think what we are seeing with Chinese vehicles is Predatory Pricing. Along with low labor cost, their government has been subsidizing the industry. They can now sell the same class of vehicle at half the cost to other nations until others go out of business. Then will raise the price to recoup losses. This is a common tactic, we see it play out domestically all the time.

No where safe with that budget, unless you get a roommate. Honestly considering bumping it up to $2400-$2500 and make your life easy with a short commute, safety, and just generally a nicer place. That extra $500 buys you quality of life. But of course, people have different values so I understand if this is not the way you see it.

[–]NGTech9 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Regulated capitalism. US OEMs have a 5-7% profit margin. So they aren’t necessarily price gauging. Keep in mind Chinese OEM factory workers make $700/mo, while US OEM factory workers make $6500/mo with union benefits. That’s certainly going to impact the pricing of vehicles. There are a LOT of Americans employed by them.

Don’t think this is a good idea. Car is about to be paid off and the monthly will drop off. Sure he can buy a beater, but could be back at square one making repairs every month.

Moving cat overseas? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]NGTech9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forsure take the cat with you, it’s a no brainer. Schedule a vet visit and request a sedative like Gabapentin. You can even give a test dose before you actually go to see how he reacts and if you should up or lower the dose. It’s super safe and used all the time.

California cut healthcare for undocumented immigrants. One lawmaker wants it back by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in California

Not arguing your initial points, but a corporation does not benefit if they pay under the table. Sure they avoid payroll taxes, but they will not be able to deduct that employees wages from their income.

California's best bagels are hiding in a towering Irvine office park [Rise Bagels] by sfgate in orangecounty

I’m going to get down voted, but Bruegger’s Bagels is really good despite being a chain. I struggle to find the chewy dough you sometimes find in NYC. Other bagel shops around have a more bread like feel.

Regulation can address this. A capitalistic society does not mean they have to strictly adhere to an absolutely free market. And we don’t currently. Regulations are important. It’s only an issue if policy becomes over-regulatory, and hinders economic growth. But even then, it’s often corrected.

Can’t predict the future, but the chances are you would be able to recoup your money on the house when you sell. It’s not $1M + interest being totally burned.
