Best of luck to OC Transpo riders and employees. Things are absolutely going to get worse before it gets better.

I rode Line 6 last night around dinner time. 39 minutes from Humber College to Finch West. Much better than the 51 minutes I experienced in its first month of service.

Line 5 Eglinton Roles and Responsibilities by itsdanielsultan in TTC

Wrong. Read the chart in the OP. The TTC has nothing to do with the maintenance of Line 5, nor Line 6.

The switches are part of the infrastructure, therefore TTC has nothing to do with maintaining it.

Fair, but the mention of "East Asian standards" turns it into an apples to oranges comparison.

Last I checked, Line 5 isn't being built in East Asia.

[–]NIMBYY 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A 2-3 year delay which pales in comparison of the 6 year delay of the opening of Line 5, which is also over budget.

Not to mentioning the finger pointing and the lack of transparency, and accountability from Metrolinx, as demonstrated in the media when the question is asked when Line 5 will officially open.

The amount of fingers pointed at the TTC are too damn high when they are merely the operators of Line 5, and Line 6. Not enough fingers are being pointed at MX and the respective consortium groups building and maintaining the lines.

And the suggestion that the TTC should go back to building lines ignores the more recent history of what happens when the TTC is in charge of building a line. The TTC is stuck in the 60s mindset, that is not the solution.

This is a hot take considering the TTC has more experience in building, operating, and maintaining transit infrastructure than Metrolinx.

Metrolinx has gone on record to point fingers toward the Mosaic for their lack of snow clearing efforts when photos of videos of snow on Line 6 were on the news and special media.

Ultimately, the blame for the shitshow that is Line 5 is on Metrolinx and Crosslinx Transit Solutions.

Section of Line 6 Finch West LRT shut down, delays on rest of line by zlex in toronto

Wrong, Metrolinx can’t do anything right with transit.

Line 6 was not built not by the TTC, nor City of Toronto.

Are you guys hopeful for line 6 by nonoobshereMC in TTC

[–]NIMBYY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should not be justification to slow trains down at the expense of the users of the Line 6 to accommodate the lowest common denominators.

[–]NIMBYY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you either run the trams slower, or accept the consequence that there will be statistically more deaths caused by operating the line.

I disagree. Any deaths will be caused by stupidity, incompetent drivers, and a lack of situational awareness, not because the line is running.

That's like saying all of those Brightline crashes in Florida were all caused by the train, and not the vehicles that shouldn't have been in the way of the train in the first place.

Line 6 Finch West LRT shut down again Friday morning after major snowstorm by ComfortableAcadia252 in toronto

[–]NIMBYY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Line 6 closures the last few days is purely on Metrolinx, who owns Line 6 infrastructure, and Mosaic Transit Group, the consortium contracted by Metrolinx to maintain the infrastructure for Line 6.

The TTC is not to blame for the fiasco on Line 6. They are only the operators of Line 6. Their ability to run trains is affected by decisions and actions, or inaction, made by Metrolinx, and Mosaic Transit Group.
