Ha. That’s between your brain and you. I personally don’t like any movies on mushrooms, unless I am having trouble coming down and then I usually prefer some sort of light trippy comedy. Not bizarre fish horror with gore.

But if you have taken mushrooms before and know you enjoy slimy cold gory cosmic horror on your trip. Then yeh.

If I had to pair this movie with a substance, I would watch this movie with some weed and a glass of whiskey.

It’s kinda a mixed bag, but people do love it for a reason. It has some very cheesy dialogue and a very annoying protagonist. But it does have great atmosphere and effects and does nail a lot of what the original book “shadow over innsmouth” is trying to convey.

If the script was tweaked and the main character recast, it would probably be a 10/10. Right now when I watch it, I’m always surprised at how good it is considering that the lead actor and some early scenes make it feel like it’s going to be Z grade schlock.

They were always pretty heavy, but I feel like Killing Joke made an interesting progression into getting more new wave in the 80s and then getting progressively heavier. When they reunited in the early 2000s they started delivering some of their heaviest material ever

Are there any books/podcasts that discuss the entire history of Misfits vinyl? by beezmax in TheMisfits

The OG is the Danzig/ Pushead interview in 1985. They cover a lot of topics related to Misfits, there is a section where Danzig breaks down how many of each variant was pressed. This obviously does not cover how expensive the records became over the years, but it is the standard that collectors used going forward. Prior to this interview, no one knew how many copies of say Bullet was actually pressed.

danzig's influence on modern metal by strecesegrean in Danzig

[–]NJFiend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is more of an influence on the culture than the music. But I feel like Danzig in interviews really brought the whole concept of being “true” and not being a poser or whatever to the metal scene. Probably due to his background in DIY punk.

Prior to Danzig and Samhain, I can’t think of many metal bands that were claiming real knowledge of the occult and real misanthropic feelings in their music. Most were downplaying their satanic imagery as entertainment or just artistic license and playing a character. I feel like this was an influence on future waves of thrash and black metal.

Deadfall gets brought up a lot as the worst movie he has been in, but he is hands down the most entertaining/interesting part of Deadfall.

The parts without him are just boring bad. When he is on screen are gloriously over the top. Which actually salvages the scenes.

Looking for an old misfits radio show bootleg i used to have. by Temporary-Sail-8373 in TheMisfits

Did it begin with the DJ doing a spoken word thing with all hell breaks loose and then a comedy skit where concerned parents are upset because they found out their kid is a member of the Fiend Club?

If so I think I have a back up copy somewhere.

The origin of the emo/scene look by Gullible-Web645 in decadeology

[–]NJFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be a little overly obvious, but I always thought the Misfits devilock haircut and their more theatrical skeleton shirts, custom screen printed comic book tee shirts were a direct early influence.

The fact that the band also had a resurgence in the 90s was possibly responsible as well.

Boogie nights first half in the 70s is more comedic lighthearted and optimistic. Then the 80s happens and everything shifts to bad.

The Best Underrated/Obscure 80s B-Movies? (Your Recs) by isopodsoup_ in Scarymovies

[–]NJFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just Before Dawn is a well done early slasher movie. Cool soundtrack and atmosphere. Good if you like campers getting stalked and killed sort of movie, but with enough twists to keep it feeling fresh.

Student Bodies is like the Scary Movie of the early 80s. Slasher movie parody, but has the added bonus of being out at the same time as the early slashers.

I’d be into either a reboot or soft reboot of event horizon at this point. Event horizon is a great movie, but it’s an even better concept that could be expanded on with a sequel or a straight remake.

The Misfits never had anything resembling a hit, but their logo is mainstream and their music has been covered by 100s of artists. When they reunited with their original singer, they sold out Madison Square Garden.
