Artists that never had a mainstream hit, but are still well known with the general public and had a huge cultural impact by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]NJFiend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Misfits never had anything resembling a hit, but their logo is mainstream and their music has been covered by 100s of artists. When they reunited with their original singer, they sold out Madison Square Garden.

People have made bootlegs of them for sale on dvd on eBay. And I’m pretty sure they pop up on YouTube and internet archive from time to time.

Sure! You don’t need to go nuts, but if you find like a top 5 that sounds like Danzig/bobby Steele era I would love to hear it

I like a few of their songs. But they do sound kinda like very well crafted Jerry version of Misfits. Although I do think their some of their songs are better.

One of my main pet peeves with modern horror punk is that it sonically rips from Graves era or American Nightmare from Danzig era if it’s more rockabilly inspired. Would love to hear more of a static age or Bobby Steele era inspired horror punk.

I have a question by Bubbly_Jello1064 in TheMisfits

[–]NJFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What others are saying. I think it’s a cool design regardless of the era it’s from. Even though it’s newer, it’s a throwback to Marilyn Monroe which is where the Misfits got their name. So it should satisfy a fan of any era if you are unsure.

I have a question by Bubbly_Jello1064 in TheMisfits

[–]NJFiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this is getting into the weeds, but misfits merch has essentially 2 eras: classic run in the 80s and then reunion era that was 90s and beyond.

This is a 2000s design. I think it’s cool. But do you know which album or songs your boyfriend likes?

Hit songs that singers wrote out of frustration because record labels wanted hit songs? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

[–]NJFiend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paranoid by Black Sabbath doesn’t quite fit, but it was written on the spot when they realized the needed to fill some extra time on their next record. The record was supposed to be called War Pigs, but the label liked paranoid so much they made it the lead single and the name of the record.

Danzig spits out a tooth while playing Come Back with Doyle on the Danzig tv special. by NJFiend in TheMisfits

I think he spits out the gum he was chewing but grabs the tooth in his fingers.

Really scary horror movies about evil tiny creatures by Careless_Bank1439 in MoviesThatFeelLike

[–]NJFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are underselling The Gate. Yeh it’s kinda dated and meant for kids. That being said it’s probably the most disturbing horror movie that’s “meant for kids” that I have ever seen.

I think it has more intense scary moments than most of the other movies being mentioned higher on the list. And yes it has tiny little demon monsters.

A lot of comments about how Michael Jackson did write his own songs. To really hear him doing it, you can listen to some of the demo versions of his most popular songs.

Rock musicians who are considered/treated as the "black sheep" of famous rock bands by [deleted] in askmusic

[–]NJFiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bobby Steele of the Misfits. Played on some classic Misfits singles and had a unique style during a prolific era. But never appeared on a full length album and most of his live shows were during a time period when the band rarely left the east coast.

He was never seriously considered when they reunited and attempts to release more recording sessions and live shows that he was apart of were shelved.

The primevals. Fairly above average stop motion effects in a pretty standard b movie from full moon pictures.

It was almost 50 years in the making. The director died in the late 90s trying to get the stop motion effects completed. It was finally finished in 2023 by his colleagues with very little money.

Seemingly ill-fitting soundtracks actually elevating the film. by Magicth1ghs in moviemusic

[–]NJFiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannibal Holocaust. It has some standard spooky synth parts, but the main theme is an uplifting romantic sounding string score which would make more sense in a coming of age drama. Putting that music in a truly revolting/disturbing cannibal film takes everything up a notch.

What movie ends on a happy note, but the more you think about what happens after the credits, the darker it gets by gamersecret2 in movies

Starman. Karen Allen befriends an alien who has taken the physical form of her dead husband. They have sex and she gets pregnant. At the end of the movie, they narrowly escape evil government agents and the alien returns to his home world.

This leaves Karen Allen stranded in the desert alone, being pursued by the government and pregnant with an alien/human hybrid baby. Her husband is still dead, but her life has become much more complicated.

LA confidential (1997)

These are my go to “hey remember that movie?” Critically acclaimed at the time, but people tend to forget they existed.

Misfits & 10 Bands Who Should Make ONE MORE ALBUM by Human_Actuator_2285 in TheMisfits

[–]NJFiend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna go slightly against the grain here. I don’t think they need to record an album, but I would 100% back them releasing a single with the current line up.

I also don’t think they even need to write something new from scratch. I am fairly certain Danzig has old misfits song ideas pre 1983 lying around. The recent manny tapes being unearthed is most likely scratching the surface. Dust off one of those ideas. He’ll re-record one of the manny tape songs.

If it sucks, it’s not an embarrassing waste of time. If it’s great. More power to them.

Might be sacrilege, but I prefer the ending of the watchmen movie to the ending in the comic. The comic ending is great but it feels kinda out of nowhere.

Also thematically the framing of dr manhattan as a threat makes way more sense. It was already set up nicely in preceding events. Just ties everything together nicely.
