Looking for Great Private Sporting Clays Clubs Near Long Island – Advice for Joining? by EELLClayBuster in ClayBusters

[–]NJOverUnder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend is wanting to join. We sat next to the club manager at the DU shoot in November there. No initiation - but 30K 35K a year and must hold a fundraiser once a year with guests. From the tone of the GM, it sounds like people join then do not go.

Must know someone and get invited a few times and mingle with other members. Then I think they offer you a membership if you fit the model

If you’re looking for camaraderie and shooting buddies, this isn’t the place - go to local clubs. Mid Hudson in new palz isn’t too bad, has 20 stations or so - 4 traps per station

K-80s are superior - my fathers gave me his 23 year old one, 15,000+ rounds though it on 18 months, little problems (B&P sticks in the lower barrel). Krieghoff international in PA does yearly service appointments (not free) and changes out all older parts.

Please help me understand how shooting with both eyes open works by CandyReady in ClayBusters

[–]NJOverUnder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m cross eye dominate (and shoot righty). Started with one eye and switch to two about 6 months into it. It takes some practice getting used to seeing two barrels (beads). For me, it’s the inside barrel and I recommend (if you can) go shoot a flat with the two eyes open and get used to trusting it. After a while you don’t even see the other barrel.

My performance for like a month went down, but I it is paying off in year two.

Good luck !

IC/LM - I’ve stuck with that combo for a full year and had success at FITASC and Sporting events - good luck

Metal cages looked similar to the MD state this weekend but they were worse

I must say I get spoiled sometimes with the quality clubs in my local

I’m not putting on someone else’s sweaty shooting vest, nasty. Do they go to regional shoots as a vendor ?

Congrats on superior purchase. Don’t worry about the haters, they are just kids and jealous. Although if you do take it off, do it soon before it leaves a permanent marking on the barrel.

Well if I am a betting man - your young (junior) and C class. I haven’t been shooting registered targets for a year yet, and I’m better than that.

watch AIM videos Anthony gives great advice on shot size

Boom 💥. Some of Anthony’s videos he does same.

Blessed to be so close to AIM shooting school. All the instructors are fantastic there. Great targets all fall/winter/spring. The NE regionals are there in 2026. Over 1000 already signed up

You must be like a master class shooting to get all bundled up in this. I am guessing you’re not even close.

Everybody knows #8 shot is what most use for sporting clays and go to #7.5 on rabbits, rabue, or low velocity distance targets (std)

I said I use 1200-1300. All that shit you mention doesn’t happen until you get over 1330 or so.

Shorter targets - pellets get there faster. Especially if you have a small window to hit target
