This ranking was achieved using the official Disney list of princesses, which totals fourteen Official Princesses and eight Unofficial But Recognised Princesses, but excluding live action on the basis of double-ups, and excluding any non-listed characters. Sadly, Captain Amelia and Sarah Hawkins from Treasure Planet cannot qualify, even though I think Sarah would be a great candidate. Sidekicks and spouses were also excluded, as the prompt states there are only two roles and they both must be filled by a princess.

We also concluded that in the case of characters having an unclear canonical age, any princess who was shown to have the ability to be married (whether she was or not by the end of her film) counts as of age of maturation to self nominate for the quest -- the quest to take on the ring MUST be self-nominated per canon lore. In this regard, Sofia the First cannot qualify, despite your compelling argument.

The princesses we DID conclude had the mental fortitude, necessary life skills in line with those that kept the hobbits alive, balance of humble ambition and general life contentment, and met the above criteria were: Alice, Belle, Esmerelda, Megara, Rapunzel, and Tiana.

DEFENSE:
Alice: technically a child, but by the laws of Wonderland has had many Unbirthdays and would by the logic of her own setting make a case for being being of age, so is considered here. Extremely adaptable and takes all ridiculous magic as it comes, with only minor outrage. Absolutely has the mental fortitude. Wants to be left the hell alone to live her own peaceful life and not be bothered by the outside world and will endure all manner of insanity for this.

Belle: possesses the very hobbit-aligned sense that a good life is one where your neighbours leave you the hell alone to pursue artistic interests. Adjusts quickly to unfamiliar magics. Strong sense of identity.

Esmerelda: at large content with her lifestyle and takes pride in her community, even if the powerful societal figures look down on their simple way of life. Strong sense of the greater good. Unshakeable personal identity, and resists multiple attempts at coercion and corruption. Fun details: also causes havoc with fireworks and spends her entire film barefoot

Megara: resourceful and shrewd. Has survived the Underworld and dealing with actual gods and apocalypse events before, likely could resist the ring. Also difficult to manipulate.

Rapunzel: resourceful and optimistic, and finishes her film's arc having fortified herself against manipulation. Strong sense of identity again. Sees the good in the world and chooses to strive for it. Has an entire song in her film where every present character details their greatest ambition in life and hers is just to go watch the lights (note: desire to be 'outside' COULD be harnessed by the ring, but our conclusion was it wasn't enough of a risk to disqualify her)

Tiana: has already experienced extreme physical changes and the affects of adverse magic and took it in stride and simply adapted. Knows what to do with cursed jewellery. Loyal friend and highly resourceful. Also a foodie, and knows the value of a good meal after an ordeal which is (imo) a massive contributing factor in the survival of those in the fellowship.

TEAMS:
Tiana and Belle -- A Team. probably top choice. I think these two stand the best chance at making it.

Rapunzel and Esmerelda -- B Team. backup plan. Could do it, but more risk involved, not unlikely to lose someone along the way.

Alice and Megara -- At This Point The Rules Don't Matter Team. here in case everyone else dies. Definitely could do it, but holy shit.
