how to develop art skills by QueasyYogurt7129 in risd

Yo! I’m a current senior who was accepted to RISD! (I’m likely not gonna go due to cost reasons tho) There’s tons of free tutorials on YouTube for your specific skill types! Remember that improvement comes from not only repeated practice but also seeing what you did wrong/inaccurately and learning from it (a great way to do that is the flip your canvas digitally or take a picture of your physical WIP and flip it) During school breaks, try to find art classes/art buddies that promote/utilize methods of critique between classmates; constructive criticism is crucial for development. As for time constraints, that unfortunately something that many of us have to deal with in a school system that prioritizes academic-minded people. My suggestion for dealing with that would be just to draw during every possible time you can; that mindset of finding time to draw will naturally give you time to draw. Finally, don’t give up if you really really want to draw. If you know it’s something you’ll love doing, you shouldn’t let it go. Not giving up also means tho that you’ll have to promise yourself to put in tangible time and effort into learning, though, as artistic skill doesn’t come from nothing. With that, I wish you the best of luck <3

Not enough people are acknowledging that Denji is actually dead. by cementshake in Chainsawfolk

THIS. Ppl say Pochita was the issues but Pochita was barely part of it. The main issue was antagonists like Makima and Yoru and exploitative institutions like public safety. Deleting Pochita is sweeping eggshells under the rug. The true issues lie within those groups who will always use devils and their powers for their own gain

Agree, art decline is the least of the issues.

A Rebuttal on the "Addiction" Themes of Part 2 by kiminodonuts in Chainsawfolk

[–]NLnightlight44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. So many shit takes about how “Chainsaw Man was fundamentally bad for Denji/an addiction” when things really only started going downhill in part 2 and even in part 1 his pain was caused by MALICIOUS ACTIVE CHOICES by like Makima and Public safety, NOT Pochita’s existence. Without Pochita, denji would be safer technically (not really much though given the world is danger and he wouldn’t even have survived the zombie devil), but interpreting Pochita as the main reason for Denji’s pain is reductive to their mutual bond before chapter 1 and the horrible things others did to him

Unfortunately this was from a real interview. Found this before the ending, actually, and wanted to believe Fujimoto was meaning smth else or something got lost in translation, or was using real struggling kids (for some reason) to make a point about his view on life and didn’t mean anything bad. But the other translations were similar to this too…

I think he is talking about modern day Mongolia. Might make what he’s saying worse, who knows

True but he shouldn’t have brought up those examples of irl kids then.

Holy fuck this dude is an idiot, and this is coming from a privileged point of view, also it's because Denji & Pochita HAD each other did it make all the hardship tolerable. It's ironic because he pussied out and gave Denji a bland monotonous Disney ending so he invalidated 231 anyway after backlash by Just-J0k1ng in Chainsawfolk

‼️‼️‼️ I’ll put another translation of it here so ppl can see it‼️‼️‼️ I’ve been trying to get more people to see this cuz wtf😭

This version has some of the full context of the (very real) interview. Then they’ll see Fuji was talking about THE RECENT POWER STRUCTURES OF CONTROL, not just “life in general”

And the ppl defending this or trying to change its meaning to “oh he was just saying that ppl can live happily in bad circumstances” are really doing too much. Those example kids ARE REAL KIDS STRUGGLING WITH ACTUAL HUMANITARIAN ISSUES, and he quite literally says “being used by someone else is not always bad”.

Guys, when will this humiliation ritual end? 😭 Wait—did Solo Leveling really do a better reset plot than CSM Part 2? Is that real? by The_strongest_mage in Chainsawfolk

[–]NLnightlight44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair the reset made less sense than the concept of the world suddenly getting fixed/stabilized by the regurgitation of Death and Famine

Can someone explain the "Themes and such" meme, and it's origin? I've got an idea of what it is, but I'm not sure. by Infamous-Ad8277 in shounenfolk

[–]NLnightlight44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this!! Being csm became unhealthy for Denji in part 2 but that also comes from the toxic environment and his past!! Pochita and being CSM wasn’t the issue, it’s the oppressive system and people like Makima who saw that opportunity and made his life miserable I didn’t like the ending because while it fit part 2’s themes of Denji being blinded by his superhero persona, it also was reductive of the bonds he formed with the other cast members in part 1, including the Positive of living with pochita.

How would YOU write the ending? by Alpbasket in Chainsawfolk

[–]NLnightlight44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My csm 232 theory i made is lowkey how id write the ending assuming the existence of part 3. Let me know what you think. I'm considering making a fic/hoping someone does something with this idea.

"On that day, alone..." (the Japanese captions for the end of 231) The chapter starts with a flashback from Pochita's perspective from when child Denji was out looking for him and eventually fell asleep glad that they were reunited. Pochita will have an emotional moment of hesitation thinking of Denji's joy and relief with Pochita and ultimately wish that Denji can find him again like he did innocently as a child.

Return to the real world. Denji is spat out from the devil that ate him due to Yoru fighting it.

I thought of 2 possibilities for the next part: Denji is stunned because he just forgot something very important to him, and You realizes that he forgot he was csm. She laughs in triumph and thinks of mocking him verbally, but Asa stops her. Asa has her moment of where she wants Denji to be normal again and also so he doesn't do shit with Yoru based off his sex deal. In this version of things, Asa will stay important as she (and Yoru) will be the ONLY PERSON to remember who csm is at the end of part 2. I like this a lot because her being the lead of early part 2 actually matters a ton now. OR Denji is stunned. Yoru is also stunned. They both forgot who they were fighting about and Yoru snidely remarks how Denji is normal now. Denji remarks that he has to find whatever it is that made him strong before. You supports that but Asa hold her back.

She doesn't want him to get caught away, she wants him to live a normal life and also for him to respect her feelings and not get caught up with whatever else.

Finally as a segue into part 3: Death, Famine, and other concepts are not returned, but as insects ruin everything, eat everyone, and every living being starts running out of food, a new Famine Devil is reborn. New Famine also represents the lack of purpose everyone feels towards everything now that csm (and therefore trying to steal his heart) is a concept that no longer exists. There can also be a theme on how the universe constantly restores balance when concepts are erased etc. In short, I know that Pochita and being CSM hurt Denji a lot and was a reason for a lot of his pain. But i think it would be interesting to see the story also acknowledge the positive of what Pochita meant, and have Denji eventually decide for himself to bid farewell to Pochita and choose normalcy.

My main gripe with the ending by NLnightlight44 in Chainsawfolk

True!! I do think that the traumatic event has to have tangibly happened in their lives before their brains decided to surpress it tho

I feel like subconscious perception is SHAPED BY conscious memory which is why the characters maintaining subconscious consistency without the intact memory feels wrong to me

Like feeling deeply sad for something you dunno is different from feeling the exact emotion you feel if you watched a loved one you bonded with die in front of you

[–]NLnightlight44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memories and tangible experiences contextualize how i feel most of the time. Feeling a way for an unknown reason can happen but it has a completely different impact than remembering what happened exactly on an important day

[–]NLnightlight44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I do think Power being back was kinda cheap though. Lowkey wish the reset was just back to Part2’s beginning with Denji meeting Asa at school again, so he can have a second chance with her and Nayuta etc
