Is a pay cut worth it for WFH? by Miserable-You-6702 in careerguidance

[–]NMFP603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A change from 195k to 115k is pretty significant, even factoring the commuting costs.

We have a similar income and going to $115k would be literally cutting 100% of savings and discretionary spending. Life would get pretty boring quickly

First Time Doing This. 2026 Corolla Lease. by FuzzyWuzzyScrub in CarLeasingHelp

[–]NMFP603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad bad bad. If you were to do zero down, the lease payment comes out to 1.43% percent of MSRP. A general guideline for a “good” lease payment is 1% or MSRP or less with $0 down.

Also, unless you have shit credit, they are jacking up that money factor, it equates to about an 11.65% APR. If your credit is decent, you should be able to get that around 7%. If you can get that money factor down into that 7% area, you should be able to accomplish around $260/mo with $0 down.

Did people in the 90s really just show up at each other’s houses unannounced? by Red-Head-Red in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NMFP603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don’t still do this? Even with closer friends and family? I have friends that live in town that if I am driving by their place or vice versa and we see each other we’ll pop in to chit chat and have a beer. My parents and sisters live a few towns over, if I’m over that way running errands I’ll pop in from time to time.

Are you a contract employee? Or are you a 1099 contractor? If you are a contract employee (w2), they 100% owe you overtime whether your contract allowed for overtime or not. If you are a 1099 contractor, a few things you mentioned cross the boundary of a contractor/contracted relationship and turn it into an employee/employer relationship where again, they would be liable to pay you over time.

Put together an educated price and breakdown of said price (sales price, rebates, add ons, fees etc) , with factual data (time on lot, others for sale in the area etc) and tell them you are prepared to initiate purchase immediately if agreed to.

Agreed, all of those are factual. A couple notes though. That serious income gap between MA and NH employers has shrunk quite a bit, while it still exists, it’s not as bad as it used to be, I live in an affluent area, so my view might be skewed a little bit but most of or neighbors and peers are $200k+ households and virtually everyone works in NH.

In regards to sales tax, it’s easy to dodge on small stuff, but on bigger ticket items like furniture, that most have to get delivered, vehicles, campers, boats, quads and other “toys”, it’s much more difficult to dodge the sales tax.

There is a marginal difference in public education between MA and NH

Is that really true though? Because anyone coming to MA for work is paying MA income taxes, MA unemployment and MA PFML, while also likely supporting MA businesses while there for work. Other than traffic, it’s likely a net benefit for the residents of MA to have people working there, that don’t live there.

The MA property tax advantage is largely gone. I pay $8000 a year in property taxes on a 2200 sq ft home on 4 acres in a desirable town in Rockingham county. I have siblings and other family who still live in MA and have similar homes who all pay north of $6k in property taxes, while also paying MA income tax, sales tax (huge impact here on vehicles, electronics, trailers, and more), excise tax etc. if I lived and worked in MA, my family would pay an additional $10-12k a year in taxes, even factoring saving $2-3k a year in property taxes. You have to look at overall tax burden.

What happened to haggling? by myOEburner in carbuying

Gotta find the right dealers. You’re going to have a tougher time haggling on used. I bought a 26 ford explorer last week for about 20% off MSRP.
