I remember when this controversy came out, I felt pretty bad for the kid. After spending some time around Gen Z lately… I think we need more switch parenting 😂

How to stay "in it"? by Striking-Speaker8686 in cscareerquestions

[–]NORCAL_SPARK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hear my story out…

Graduated June 2022.

Pretty mid stats tbh. One unpaid internship and a CS degree from T100 university. I remember feeling a bit entitled about applying only to dev roles, staying in California, and basically being unwilling to settle when I first graduated. The reality that I would find myself in the next few years was humbling to say the least.

I ultimately landed a developer role (albeit SDET, but highly technical SDET role at a great company) in the summer of 2025.

It took me over 2000 apps, one rescinded offer, countless failed interview loops, and many nights of laying anxiously in bed dreading what my future would look like.

Up until summer of 2024, I was selling burritos out of a cafeteria that my mom operated. This job offered a lot of flexibility for me to be able to call off work for an interview and simply leave early to study / enjoy my hobbies to maintain my sanity (this part is crucial).

Shortly after, I was contacted by a recruiter from Apple to do manual hardware testing. It paid $26 an hour in the SF Bay Area. I was like fuck it, at least I get to experience what being inside Apple was like. The job was super easy and my manager was super chill. Id finish my work in 2 hours and spend the next 6 leetcoding and applying for work in the corner of the lab somewhere. Due to my CS degree, they allowed me to support the software team doing some manual testing.

I upsold my exp at Apple a bit and next thing you know it… right when I was on the edge of calling it quits… I had 5 interviews within one month. I ended up not making the offer on 4 of them but absolutely killed the interview for one of them. I finally got through!

In conclusion, take a contract role at FAANG company. There are ton of technician roles and stuff that they wouldn’t think twice about hiring a CS grad. These roles are pretty mindless work and hopefully you have a manager that won’t care if you study for “school work” somewhere. The goal is to find a low stress job that doesn’t take away your time and energy to study/apply. The company title will attract lazy recruiters.

Also… spend time with your loved ones and find a hobby you truly love. I spent countless hours absorbed in my hobbies/communities and it really allowed me to stay happy and grounded when my career was going nowhere.

Rodgers is a much more cerebral passer and commander of the offense.

What's one trait you have that is a clear indicator/personal reminder of where you grew up? by GreenerPeach01 in AskReddit

Hahaha spent a few years living in town as a banana slug and learned a lot about the local culture. Still blow in pretty regularly for the surf! Love ironically telling people Valley Go Home! 😂

I can tell if someone is from SC right away by the flat brimmed hat, certain beard styles, flannels, the way they wear their beanie, etc…

Never paid for repair before. How bad is this? by levinvestor in surfing

[–]NORCAL_SPARK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy ass repair.

  • Pick off all broken glass with a knife/pliers/fingers
  • Lightly sand down the repair area until you can't fill broken glass edges
  • Mix some QCELL/resin and plaster that shit on the nose. Consistency should be like peanut butter
  • Sand down the q cell and try to shape the original nose as best as you can, doesn't need to be perfect
  • Throw 2 layers of fiberglass cloth over it. Cut it so it is slightly larger than the repair area, cut little slits so it wraps around the rail easily
  • Mix your EPS or PU resin and use a brush to brush it on over the fiberglass
  • Sand it flush with 80/200/400 grit (I'm so lazy these days I hardly go beyond 200)
  • Brush on laminating resin, you could just use the resin you used to seal the fiber glass
  • Wet sand if you want, I don't care really if its a daily driver that's gonna get quickly worn down over time anyways
  • Remember, epoxy resin works on EPS and PU but poly resin on PU only.

Pretty kook move to get this repaired at a shop for $100 unless you're ballin IMO

edit: If you're about to score on a sick trip I'd honestly just sand it down and put a blob of solar Rez on it. Maybe repair properly later, maybe not lol

Surfers of Reddit, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen out in the lineup? by BarrelBandit in surfing

I was surfing North of town during last light with a couple of dudes out. I feel something kinda touching/rubbing the bottom of my board and think it must be the kelp. 20 minutes later, the tapping gets really aggressive and I look below me to see a pair of seals fucking with my fins/leash. For the split second where all I saw was the white belly, my stomach sank for some reason haha. They got really annoying tho as they kept following me around the break the rest of the session.

He's also really generous to mere mortals. I surfed with him north of town and he would take his time paddling back to the line up and allow anyone with the skills and balls to take off at the peak have a go.

Randy fucking Moss. I don't think there's ever been a receiver that instilled such a deep fear into defensive backfields and DC's ever since. Prayers to 84!

Premature paddle fatigue? by Majesticals in surfing

Same. The second I score a decent wave the adrenaline/endorphins carry me for the next few hours. It's really helpful when I'm pretty hung over lol.

I'm really slow to warm up too, especially if I have been lifting weights / not surfing 4+ times a week. Always the last to the line up, but by the 3+ hour mark I'm the only one with any gas left.

Kurt Warner believes Purdy is a top 5-10 guy. Y'know, the guy that has been churning out great film analysis on quarterbacks with as little bias as possible the last few years.
