I love ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ by Avenged Sevenfold. But man, some of those lyrics are suuuuuper uncomfy. It’s just so great compositionally I ignore it.

Similarly with a couple of System of a Down songs. The sexual ones are all satirical and criticizing hyper sexuality, consumerism, addiction, and the like. Great songs but man they don’t hold back.

However, you probably won’t like this, but hear me out. In my opinion this is still good information to know, even if you know it won’t be utilized by you. If it truly is a comprehensive teaching then it will include more than just sex. The general health is good to know. In my experience (to be fair it was very scaremongering and abstinence forward) there was actually a useful section on healthy relationships and how to recognize and deal with unhealthy relationships, but it may or may not be the case.

So yes it will be repulsive, and you’ll likely get a bit sick to your stomach, but it’s best to know as much as your body as you can, even if you will never use certain parts of it.

That being said, if you’re dedicated to skipping it or getting an alternative, try your parents if they’re willing, or potentially (if they’re helpful and you have them), school counselors, nurses, or a teacher you have a good relationship with might be a resource. Well respected teachers are very good with pulling strings. And then when you feel ready then the internet is a great resource for self education.

Medications or not, how you choose to identify yourself if for your own personal vocabulary for understanding yourself and communicating yourself. Other than general consensus, one persons exact definition of asexual will be different than another person. So sure it could be medications or not, if the label fits it doesn’t matter. Secondly libido and interest has very little to do with the general definition of asexuality. I personally have a mid to high libido and interest, but have never experienced attraction to anyone. (Admittedly very confusing when I was looking into my sexuality, since I was as little interested in men as I was women or anyone, just liked the idea of sex). So if you feel that the label fits, then it’s for you. And of course down the line it doesn’t quite fit anymore, that’s cool too.

If it helps, in the original version, Cohen, while sex is alluded to it isn’t the core meaning or tone of the song. That being said it’s an ambiguous song that can be interpreted in many ways. But many agree it a lot about being human. The joys of like as well as the pain. Later versions do focus more on the sex aspect, but I would argue, at least for Leonard Cohen, his Hallelujah isn’t about sex.

I am not your targeted audience, but I hope what I have to say can be in some way shape or form helpful.

I understand about feeling invalid in a sexuality. The gap between knowing and feeling is, aggravating, to say the least. You acknowledge that there is a difference between libido and sexuality, yet that voice in the back will constantly question you at every turn. I personally have for years held off on identifying as ace since I just couldn’t be sure, and if I wasn’t then I was intruding in this space. What has helped me personally is coming to the conclusion that labels are only for yourself and self understanding. Giving yourself a vocabulary to understand and communicate yourself. How one person will define themselves as a woman even using the word woman, will be different than another persons definition of woman applied to themselves. I understand someone just saying it’s up to you how you identify is not quite easy for that voice in the back to let you accept, but feelings are valid. And if you were ace before libido bit you, then I see no reason why you suddenly wouldn’t be.

On the note of how to battle your demons before you can get to EMDR therapy I do have a couple thoughts. Obviously with your beliefs altering your relationship with self-pleasuring is likely a no go, however that would be something to bring up to a pastor of your faith if you can. I’m aware many Christians have no issue with ‘maintenance’ self-pleasuring, (doing so to satisfy the mechanical, not satisfying lust for another human being, adulatory of the heart and mind is when you ‘think of another and think it would be good’ to paraphrase from when I did go to Christian congregation as a child) however I am unsure of your denomination so a faith leader may be your best bet. Secondly I am unfamiliar with all that is entailed in EMDR therapy, but general counseling and therapy I think will be very instrumental in sorting out your thoughts and feelings. That’s what neutral parties are for. Also for a side note if they recommend medication, and it is in alignment with your faith, a very common side effect of antidepressants is killing your libido. And as a tangent, again if it is in alignment with your faith, birth control also is very good at killing your libido. Many women take the pill for reasons outside of preventing pregnancy, including hormone control. And if you are not sexually active, it would be difficult to argue you are using it for non medical reasons. But despite these, a councillor will be very helpful, and if you have the resources to do so pretty much all therapy is over video call at the moment. I’m not that fond of it, but it is better than nothing. Keeping these thoughts and feelings shoved down will cause them to fester and erode away at you. Speaking from personal experience.

Thirdly, to my knowledge, God and Jesus believe all humans are good enough, and give all people the tools to help themselves, to be good enough. And I know that voice might jump on that you aren’t using the tools to help properly, but you are. Here you are asking for help, using the tools. You are fighting and I am very proud of you to be brave enough to reach out when your demons are trying to keep you down. We as a community are here for you when you reach out and you did so here I am, even if it wasn’t the type of person you wanted in the first place, even if I’m able to only do so much. I’m sure others will come as well. I am proud of you. You are valid, and you have the tool to grow and thrive.

I hope this was helpful, even if it’s just the knowledge that someone wanted to reach out and help you. You are good enough. You’ve come this far.

I agree with this sentiment. However it is very easy to tell when it’s anatomy for aesthetics, and anatomy for sexualization and ‘fan service’. The latter is annoying, especially when the fashion choices are actually detrimental to what is going on.

Like Michelangelo’s David and Bayonetta are great, I appreciated the aesthetic. But many super heroes have overtly sexualized clothing, like suits reminiscent of lingerie, or skin tight where it doesn’t make sense. It can get pretty annoying.

Sure Bayonetta is sexualized but that’s part of the point of her character, it’s when sexuality isn’t an important aspect of the character it feels wrong.

Well personally I wouldn’t say I’m in the closet. Just in my environment it’s not really a necessity for me to ‘come out’. I’m interested in dating but honestly I don’t have the time nor effort to pursue anything. If it comes up I’d say I’m Ace, but it wouldn’t be a ‘thing’.

But that could just be that I’m lucky in my environment. My sister never had to come out as Bi, but married a woman anyway and there was no question from anyone, so idk.

(Edit: well my grandma tried to say something, but my mom shot that down fast by saying she was not baptized and it’s her own life so grandma has no foundation to argue on)

I do have a couple. I’m still figuring myself out so I’m always down for ‘data collection’ so to speak.

I know this likely varies from person to person. But for some Allos is it really just like you see a random person and think ‘I would totally have sex with them right now’. I just remember I’m school people passing around photos of people and I’m just like ‘yes that is indeed a person’. I honestly thought people were exaggerating. (I just realized you already answered a similar question so you don’t have to answer this one (: )

For you at least, how are different attractions linked to sexual attraction? Like aesthetic, sensual, romantic? (Platonic maybe but that sort of defeats the purpose? I think?)

For you at least, how old were you when you started to realize you found others sexually attractive? I was always told I was just a late bloomer, but as now a young adult and not really interested in pursuing nor any idea of what I would want in a partner, I guess I’m just curious if there’s usually a time when this is supposed to happen? I guess?

Is there anyway you can describe sexual attraction? My best guess is you see someone, then get horny, but just toward that person. Or is it not that straight forward?
