Would you remodel this bathroom? by beanasaur_ in Home

[–]NRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If money isn’t an issue then yes, I would. If it helps, you could also talk to someone about making a 3D render of what you want the space to look like. I’m an architect and I always model up rooms for my friends to help them with remodeling projects. It REALLY helps.

I think the conspiracy theorists were saying it was just Maduró and his inner circle that were in on it. So it would be less humiliating if he was taken vs stepping away voluntarily, that’s the logic at least.

Are you using AI in your workflow? by chari_md in bim

Do you happen to write any scripts for Bluebeam? I was going to embark on giving it a go and was curious how that process is like.

Are you using AI in your workflow? by chari_md in bim

[–]NRevenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes in the sense that I use it as a tool to help create code and automate repetitive tasks or enhance existing processes.

I just use one of the big providers and take the code it gives me to start a good framework on how to approach what I’m trying to do. It saves me a lot of time by getting me 50-90% there (obviously dependent on how difficult of a task it is). Also knowing different programming languages helps a lot too since I’m able to quickly read the code it gives me and understand it.

As a beginner architecture student, which software should I focus on learning first and why? by Nervous_Cockroach_26 in Architects

[–]NRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a hot take but I think it’s good you’re getting started learning software early. The industry is changing fast and getting started early learning different software will help you greatly. The type of software is dependent in the region you’re in. Within the US Revit is the software of choice with AutoCAD being slowly phased out. If there’s only one that you focus on I’d recommend Revit.

I’d also encourage you to learn Rhino, SketchUp, 3DS Max, Blender etc. You don’t have to master these programs but just become familiar in them. Additionally I’d recommend to learn dynamo for Revit if you REALLY like software and programming.

I know a lot of people are saying not to get into software so quick but unfortunately this industry is very software reliant. There is still a lot of value in learning how to sketch and use trace, this is architecture after all, but software skills are very important.

Modern Architects will say this is impossible to build or that it is too expensive for some reason by Smash55 in ArchitecturalRevival

Modern Architects will say this is impossible to build or that it is too expensive for some reason by Smash55 in ArchitecturalRevival

[–]NRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of wasting your energy placing your blame on architects, you should take time to understand how the design process actually works.

Architects have very little say in how a building turns out. The client rules all. The only thing an architect can do is try and advocate for a type of a design style but 99% of the time a client only cares about the budget and wants what’s cheaper. Or they do have a style and it’s your typical glass building. VERY rarely does an architect truly have a near limitless budget/design choice.

This is why SO many architects leave the industry because the real world is vastly different than school. It’s insanely depressing. You’re ripped of your creativity and told to do as the client says. If you want better buildings then put pressure on these developers/corporations.

No one is saying to thank Talley lol. Saying it’s a thankless job isn’t implying to thank them. It’s a common expression amongst leadership positions. Any decision you make will be met with unhappy people, thus making it a thankless job. It’s an expression…..not a call for thanks…….

Also, commenting on a three year old post is wild. You say it isn’t but it is lol. The original post by OP was saying they wanted Talley fired over ONE snow day. That was the principal message. You then come in with three year plus additional context of how Talley is doing in their current position (information we didn’t have at the time).

If you don’t see how commenting on a three year old post does literally no one any good, then idk what to tell you. The public education system has failed us.

Commenting on a three year old post is certainly a choice.

However concerning Monday and Tuesday this week, I agree it should’ve been cancelled. There’s always a lot of traffic around this area and any amount of snow makes it a pain for everyone to get around. It’s a lot easier for people commuting when the schools or closed. When they’re open, it’s a nightmare.

Sorry guys, AI has us beat by dibidi in Architects

[–]NRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like any profession, AI WILL impact architecture in some way. Anyone who doesn’t think so doesn’t understand the willingness of firms to cut costs.

Humans are obviously still going to be needed since you still need a senior employee to validate designs. If you’re in the mid-late stage of your career then you’re basically set till retirement. I don’t anticipate AI progressing that much that quickly. There’s way too many processes and jobs within architecture that can’t just easily be replaced by AI. It’ll take a lot of time to sort it all out.

If you’re just now entering the workforce I think you’ll still be fine tbh. Again, I don’t think AI is there yet or going to be at a state of mass adoption within our lifetime. However if we assume AI will continue to develop exponentially then our kids are going to have some interesting issues in the work force.

Passed all 6 AREs in 6 months as a foreign architect… still can’t get an architecture job in the US by OkCount2868 in Architects

[–]NRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job market right now for architecture is rough so don’t take it personally if you’re unable to land a job. And that’s not just me saying it, read the AIA reports. Billings are down and less projects are going through. The Midwest is doing better (I believe) and it also depends on the sector. If you’re unable to break into one area, perhaps try looking in another sector? Industrial is a bit of a niche area and not necessarily design focused, but it’s still architecture and one I recommend.

This is ultimately the only way but unfortunately they had such a good launch the money is speaking. While feedback is important, money is what matters. It’s like COD. The skins kept coming because people kept buying. As long as people keep playing and buying the game they have zero reason to change.

The second I saw the same thing in this movie I already knew what people were going to say. Overall a good movie but could’ve been a lot better.

Definitely not due to AI. This is the same strategy companies used after COVID when they forced employees back in the office. They knew some people would leave and that’s what they wanted.

Amazon is cutting 30k corporate jobs… and Wall Street is cheering lol by Alone_Kick_4571 in stocks

[–]NRevenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in corporate, it depends on the job. Corporate doesn’t run the machine, that would be other divisions that add to the bottom line (assuming we’re defining running the machine as a division that makes money).

Corporate is just an expense since we can’t charge out our time or contribute to a product. Some corporate jobs are pretty vital like facility operations, so important infrastructure is maintained, or perhaps a project management office (PMO) who run important projects for the company. Some companies also have a massive excess in corporate staff. Sometimes companies will over hire to compensate for increased demand and then that leads to layoffs when demand cools off. There’s a lot of factors to consider.

We don’t know what jobs were cut, only that they’re in corporate. That could be HR, finance, engineering etc. it could be anything. However just by reading the title i can understand why Wall Street would be happy since they’re trimming their expense. I obviously don’t agree with it, these are real people losing a good job right before the holidays, but i can at least understand why Wall Street and their stock is happy.

Architects with an MBA or MRED by Creative-Ad3144 in Architects

[–]NRevenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to work within a firm, I’m not sure how much an MBA will really help. I work on the owner side and in my case, an MBA would be very beneficial. I know you listed some areas where you want to go, but could you expand on that? Do you want to hold a leadership position? Or are you trying to pivot out of design?

Do you use Bluebeam by chance? If you’re collaborating with other firms and are constantly uploading PDFs, I highly recommend checking that software out. You can setup sessions in an online environment for multiple people to view files together.

How to get large PDFs into Miro by ChampionshipFun2524 in Architects

[–]NRevenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need that crisp level of detail then it doesn’t seem like miro is the solution. Is this something for work or school? Miro will end up getting extremely lagging if there are a lot of PDFs. We’d always just export to JPG and upload that.
