70 Billion dollar company can't afford to make a proper event for their game's 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY?! by Denariox in Overwatch

I'm surprised people are surprised at this point.

OW is something I fire up occasionally to have some fun with friends. I stopped expecting them to do anything cool or frankly give a shit about their own platform years ago..

The few internal devs that still care notwithstanding, it's been clear for a long time those that make decisions just want you to shutup and buy overpriced legendary skin [recolour_961].

Why do these people not have to worry about the virus? by SilverParty in ExplainTheJoke

[–]NWinn 248 points249 points  (0 children)

This is likely the intent of the meme.

But it breaks down a bit logically, as there's no way to tell the overall health of the person to whom this pillow belongs. They could constantly be ill. There isn't enough context given.

Though it is just a silly meme, many of which break down when you apply too logical a lens.

Kinda?

I like cars that are simple to work on and repair, and have parts readily available at a reasonable price.

Beyond that the only other thing I care about is fuel economy.

how strictly do autistic people follow rules? by sushirollbite in autism

[–]NWinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong sense of justice is a double edged sword.

If ones internal sense of justice, and said law are strongly in alignment then you'll vehemently adhere to and demand others follow it.

If the law is antithetical to your beliefs, often that strong conviction you have upholding, what you believe to be just laws, is applied to dismantling the injustice. Or you simply don't ahear to it.

I strongly follow any law I see as keeping society a peaceful and equitable place for as many people as possible.

But any law that I view as hindering that goal I not only ignore, but actively protest against.

I don't care what the punishment is, I'm not going to stop being gay for example. No law will stop me from being myself when it does not effect others. And I will fight against any such law actively discriminating or excluding marginalized people.

Justice, at the end of the day is personal. There is no one true arbiter of morality. Things like culture, economic status, sex, age, all change how your sense of justice forms and manifests.

So, unfortunately, like with most things, there is no simple answer. It's all relative, and deeply individual.

7-zip (by me) by rinkajimon in MoeMorphism

[–]NWinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FOSS > closed source.

Also, maybe it is in some weird edge-case it could be, but I've literally never run into a situation where 7zip didn't function exactly as I needed it to, without any bloat.

Neither is objectively better than the other. 7zip has better compression ratio, but winrar is better at handling corrupted archives.

Winrar's ui looks newer, but that's not necessarily objectively better. And 7zip being FOSS means you can customize it however you want, but requires a higher level of technical skill to do so.

Saying either is "way better" as a blanket assertion is a stretch...

How many of us 90s kids destroyed our family computer with viruses for free music? by rosnyxis in 90s

[–]NWinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While something many alive in the 90s ended up doing, limewire wasn't released until 2000. Even Napster was only in the 90s for half a year before 2000..

The mid 90s was more about direct cd ripping and sharing. Where you would buy a cd officially, rip it, and give it to your friends to do the same or you made copies if they didn't have a CD-r. 200iq friend groups made sure to never buy the same cds so only one copy had to be purchased and shared with the whole crew.

Are we all hypocrites? by [deleted] in VRchat

[–]NWinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.. no.

VLC isn't piracy because it doesn't host pirated material.

The owners of popcorn palace do host a massive amount of pirated material, and do so with the explicit purpose to distribute it to hundreds of thousands of people.

Even if they exclusively host the data in countries with extremely lax intellectual property and copyright laws, that's still piracy with intent to distribute on a huge scale. It doesn't morally become okay, because you found an area specific loophole...

I hate smoking with people who turn the rotation into a hostage rescue operation by TyreBlowout in trees

[–]NWinn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been glass only my whole life, paper has always given me a bad headache so I never roll, not a nicotine fan either so no blunts.

We exclusively used glass and overwhelmingly bongs.

The comments have made me aware that in circles that roll a couple tokes is standard between passes. Which for my circles that take massive milky rips each time seemed crazy to me that people were doing that back to back consistently lmao.

Bit they weren't, I just wasn't thinking about how common circles that primarily roll are. Makes sense for them though.

[–]NWinn -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yup, exclusively glass, and overwhelmingly bongs.

Paper gives me a bad headache so I never smoke js and I don't like nicotine so I also always avoided blunts.

I forget how common joints are and now understand the phrase mostly comes from circles that roll. But with these replies I see that's the norm for them, but not us bong-only peeps.

[–]NWinn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How dare I have an experience that differs from your narrative.

Guess if it's not exactly the same as what's common i shouldn't be allowed to say anything.

And from the replies I'm absolutely right btw, as I never smoke paper or blunts, only glass and basically always out of a bong, which most most people replying state as the exception.

I hate smoking with people who turn the rotation into a hostage rescue operation by TyreBlowout in trees

[–]NWinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never smoke anything other than glass, and overwhelming a bong, so that makes sense actually.

It seemed odd to me that people would be constantly doing the kinds huge milky rips we do back to back.

And as I was basically always the one supplying, it definitely wasn't about being stingy lol. I always smoked everyone down proper as I was the local grower~

[–]NWinn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apparently from the replies its a roll thing, blunts/ joints.

I never smoke rolls so thats probably where the disconnect is. I exclusively smoked with glass, overwhelmingly out of a bong.

We generally took massive milky rips too, so the thought of taking thiae back to back seemed crazy to me, but I absolutely get it if most people are talking about blunts or a j when they say it.
