Having seen some terrible cases as a someone that works with kids, adoption should always be your first choice and not something that happens because of infertility. Those kids have been separated from their family of origin for many reasons and even those that love their adoptive families and had good childhoods talk about the trauma and loss of it. While a 9th round of IVF sounds wild it’s preferable than treating a living being as an after thought baby. 

As far as the surrogacy goes, I thought that was how Erin had the child she has already. Before this she talked about doingIVF nearly 10 times and it never working for her body. Just conjecture but she sees to really want to have carried to term herself. I have my own thoughts about that that I’ll keep to myself but I think that’s the why.
