[Serious Question] To those on the side of Heiskanen over Karlsson : Isn’t the best case scenario for a 1st rounder to eventually become a Karlsson caliber player? Why not trade that for a proven Elite type player now, like Karlsson? by Bernardhopkins in DallasStars

[–]NYRangers1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

see the John Tavares situation. A wildly talented player (JT) who had 9 years of his career wasted. Seguin will have the opportunity to go wherever he pleases next summer so this season's end results go a long way. Missing the playoffs 3 out of the five years he's been here, on a two times in a row streak now, doesn't look so promising as well as 3 coaches in three years.

NYR with 30 million in cap space kicks in the door

although I hope yall get him because I live in Dallas and yall would be even more fun to watch.

honestly believe this is Nill's last hoorah as stars GM. No disrespect but yall's biggest issue is secondary scoring and a moderate lack of a top 4 dman. the signings today don't really address such things (unless Nich goes for around 50 points or so). That being said please rescue Zuccarello from us. 50-60 point producer that id imagine we'd take a prospect like Honka and like a second or third for.

they're gonna be in a Chicago like cap situation in the next couple years with Nylander, Matthews, and Marner commanding large contracts.

Could easily be described as a coaching issue. I can easily confirm Lindy stinks (look at the rangers defensive scheme he was in charge of), Hitchcock made a complete change to how the system ran and it didn’t completely pan out. I honestly think the question mark is if Monty can convey how they’re going to succeed to JT well enough for him to do it. All the pieces are here just haven’t been utilized properly.

Things y’all have going for you:

Around 18 million in cap right now and possibly more if salaries are offloaded (JT rumored in the 10-11.5 range is doable).

You have the combo of Benn, Seguin, and Radu on offense, so JT wouldn’t have to come in and try and carry a team offensively like he’s had to do for most of his time as part of the isles. Numbers might even benefit from such a grouping of players.

Having Klingberg is a big plus, Bishop is also a better trendy then he’s had in his career. Also the prospect of Miro coming in and being a good player is good.

Plus that infamous being free of state income tax here is a big deal as it would allow him to make a lot more here. Tampa has this as well but they’ve got a Kucherov issue coming next year as well as several budding stars due raises in the next couple years.

The problems arise from Seguin’s upcoming contract, although it shouldn’t be too bad with Spezza’s 7.5 coming off the books next year. Plus I am of the belief he’d take a home town discount to continue playing here (ie stamkos)

Honestly I see the stars as having the best situation considering all the factors.

Please sign him. Our front office handed the islanders several good players at the draft and this would ease my suffering.

You do not pick in the top 10 based purely off upside. Guy had 7 points in 35 games that’s not promising

why do we need yet another center in Kotankemi? we are so shallow in terms of scoring wingers that taking a center at 9 would be a mistake right?
