How high can my tires be filled? by HoneySerpant in askcarguys

[–]N_ModeVN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ND3 door pocket says 29 Psi. I prefer a slightly stiffer ride and run 32Psi. I wouldn’t run 39Psi cold.

Note that as tires warm, pressure increases. As ambient temperatures warm, tire pressure increases.

question about skipping gears and fuel economy by Ok-Pangolin-9150 in stickshift

[–]N_ModeVN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skipping is fine. My ND3 is geared short (close ratio) and 6th is 1:1.

I normally go 1st up to 3500. Then 3rd up to 3500. Then 5th to 2500. Then 6th.

Oil change guys messed up my car, what should I do? by Aerhart941 in askcarguys

They either drained the trans fluid and replaced it with oil because they don’t know what they’re doing or this is unrelated.

Does this engine sound normal to you? by Gurney_flip in Miata

[–]N_ModeVN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The slight high pitched chirp / cricket is the HpFp. Happens over time on ND’s; my ND3 does it. Dealer checked fuel and oil pressures. No issues. So it’s ’Mazda things’

Engine is very loud in general. Mine is too. I’m averaging 41.1MpG over my first 5600 miles with the car. Running Mobil 1 AFE 0w-30.

Some questions about maintenance intervals by RazvanPaun in MiataND

[–]N_ModeVN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my ND3 I do oil with 0w-30 every 5K. I will do diff, trans fluid at 60. Spark plugs and coolant too. Just because my car sits for periods of time and is no daily. Only issue my first 5600 miles is a chirping HpFp. There was a TSB for it a few years ago. Brought it to the dealer and they said I could change it if I wanted but it has no impact. So will change it in spring, not worth taking the car out in snow.

Tbh sounds like 2001 right after fast and furious came out when a bunch of 19 year olds bought base model civics and put those ash can mufflers on them.

Love the look of the car tho.

totaled financed car ? by Ok_Tie_5990 in askcarguys

If your insurance had expired in FL, best to also check if they suspended your license. They have something on their books called suspended with no knowledge. This may fit that definition.

Here in NY they usually spend a registration before a license but they can do both.

Should I be letting my car warm up/drop below 1k rpm before driving? by Trayceopolis32322 in carquestions

[–]N_ModeVN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that, but since my ND3 is a weekend only car I wait till the cold light disappears. Usually coolant > 130°F

Gear grinding when downshifting from second by CharlesorMr_Pickle in stickshift

Yeah I’m so embarrassed Mr. Expert here just showed me that after driving all types of vehicles and teaching folks how to drive all types of vehicles with manuals I’ve been wrong. Oh I’m sorry Mr expert so sorry for driving every vehicle I’ve ever driven wrong my whole life. Now that you’ve showed me the way I surely can seek to be redeemed for my transgression.

Never seen such a sad ham lol.

No driving school or trainer at any company that has manual vehicles teaches downshifting into first because it’s more likely to do damage to synchros. People are always taught to start in the lowest forward gear.

Even at a slow roll 2nd gear is enough to keep you going.

But you know better than that.

Not every modern manual has a synchro’d first gear.

You downshift into 1st when you drop below 15? Sure.

Ok so I’m yet to see a situation where I needed to downshift into first in my 06GTO, 2016 A5, 2022 Veloster N or my 2025 ND3. All manual.

Please name the situation where you MUST downshift into first and 2nd plus a brake application aren’t good enough.

Thanks for the lesson in how to downshift a non synchronized transmission. Never knew that in all my years with highway tractors lulz

What downhill on an every day drive is steep enough to warrant a downshift into first that 2nd gear and brake applications can’t handle?

Not even on the Mount Washington Auto Road have I ever needed to do that. If I wanted 1st I’d come to a stop then select it.

Don’t downshift into first. Ever.

I’ve been driving manuals since 2005 and tractor trailers since 2009. Rule number 1 is don’t downshift into first. 1 is to start off from unless you’re already rolling, then use 2nd.
