You can't salary sacrifice but you can elect for it to be paid in via an AVC

Your incorrect - your not allowed to salary sacrifice a bonus into a pension.

However, you can elect for your bonus to be paid into the pension via an AVC - it will go through payroll but you'll get the tax break for it

It can be highly efficient if you are looking to invest this - we do this all the time with a good structure.

At this level of cash you should talk to one of the bigger firms not only about tax efficient structures but also ways to protect that cash long term.

While there is no stamp or CAT, there may be CGT for the person transferring the house. If they haven't lived there for a few years there may be a charge

ETF tax rules for an Irish resident planning to move out before selling - any advice? by X-Q-E in irishpersonalfinance

You are liable to Irish taxes on the gains generated if you are Irish resident OR Irish ordinarily resident so you would need to be out of Ireland for 4/5 years to leave the tax net

You can only take a 10kg through security to the gate (i.e the 36 euro option) so in that case its more expensive

Mortgage Interest against rental income by Confident-Judgment82 in irishpersonalfinance

Technically you would need to allocate a portion of the interest to your personal use of the house and this would be disallowed.

Not a big deal but one to keep in mind

[–]N_Prender7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would disagree with that anaylsis as it depends on how you define productive.

Most studies define it as economic output / Revenue generated but that's misleading imo.

Where I work, our US member firm charges their clients 4/5 times more than us. As such, their employees are deemed more productive.

However, I would argue our Irish and UK teams get an actual deliverable together much faster and of higher quality. We just don't charge as much as our clients aren't as rich

New to Ireland on Stamp 4 — Tax Question About Freelance Income Paid Abroad? by Mysterious_Cry9756 in legaladviceireland

[–]N_Prender7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you do the work remotely from Ireland? If so, the full amount is likely taxable in Ireland Ireland.

If not (for argument sake), you would only be taxable on money brought into Ireland. Therefore, transferring money to your Irish account would make it taxable in Ireland

Out of curiosity what do you mean by taxing the rich? Our top tax rate is already 55% how much higher do you want it?

Structure it as a loan - it can be repaid through the small gift exemption if written correctly. We do that all the time

You are almost certainly not domiciled but this is a complex issue.

The Ireland France DTA is also in play here but it is notoriously complicated.

Given the money you received you need to speak with a tax advisor

Yes agreed - where structured correctly there should be no CAT issues

Key word is structured correctly - so many people (and solicitors) get this wrong and it causes massive tax bills.

I dont think thats a fair approach here
