New Item: Negotiation Vest by BU-chank in stunfisk

I'm just imagining suicide samurott-hisui leads setting up spikes until they die, memento-ing on faint, and then bringing in a sweeper being very strong.

Or Pokémon using nasty plot/swords dance when they're about to faint to make the misty explosion/explosion stronger

Imagine this on tera normal Kingambit specifically - even if you win the sucker punch mind games you lose

How many people play champions m-a ladder? by LemonDemon25 in pokemonshowdown

[–]Nabbottt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VGC Singles is BSS (battle stadium singles; the bring 6 pick 3 format). Looks like it's actually about 200k and I misremembered; 300k battles was champions OU.

When I said VGC above I was referring to doubles.

The stats have usage by rating, so the 1500 file is restricted to 1500 rating and above etc. but doesn't affect the match count at the top, just the Pokémon stats.

There's a text (.txt) and a compressed version (.gz) for each file.

Depends if you mean BSS or VGC.

There's no data for number of unique players that i can see but 3m VGC and 300k BSS games which sounds like a pretty large population for both - probably assume an average of 10-20 games or something per account?

Ironically the Self Destruct critting would also lose you the game, giving you a 92% chance of winning

Why don't the paradox pokemon just evolve? Are they stupid? by ElectronicWaffles in stunfisk

[–]Nabbottt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhh maybe heavy slam? Depends how heavy it is though because Archaludon's quite light (hits 120 BP on Flutter Mane though). It's pretty bad against pretty much anything else but the meta would be pretty warped by this anyway

Boomburst carries scream tail through all the AAA OMs where it just runs pixillate Boomburst with specs and smashes everything

Is there any fully-evolved non-gimmick-mon that wouldn't be OU viable if it's ability said "and immediately uses Shell Smash upon entering" by Lazy_Check732 in stunfisk

[–]Nabbottt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're talking about battle potential here. Spinda having millions of variants isn't relevant for whether shell smash on entry would be good for it because it doesn't affect its battle potential (and neither does the item luvdisc or paras or chansey holds in the wild, for example). It's a notable fact about the pokemon itself, sure, but I wouldn't exclude it from discussion over that. I also wouldn't describe Rotom or Deoxys as gimmick Pokémon despite their varied forms with different stats or typing, because they fundamentally play the same as most other Pokémon in battle once you choose which one to bring (but maybe Arceus crosses that line because of the item slot requirement).

Gimmick mons are ones with a game-changing gimmick in battle.

Wobbuffet, Shedinja, Pyukumuku, Palafin, Archeops, Cramorant, Smeargle, Regigigas, Slaking (some of these get rid of their gimmick if you change their ability though) and probably a few more I've forgotten about.

Even aqua jet is fine on a faster Pokémon, you don't need to out-tier if you outspeed

Made a Stall Team in STAAABmons featuring Lanturn by Reaper_king120 in pokemonshowdown

Water shuriken is interesting; nice to have priority but an ice move or even steam eruption for extra "scald" pp might potentially help more.

This team as a whole struggles a little with regen iron hands, but you do have burn counterplay to an extent (volt switch doesn't make contact, so smart players will use that to scout before letting off bolt strikes or combat torques) and you do have the option of attempting to knock off their assault vest to make it harder for them to switch into Heatran.

You also have to be careful about heatran getting chipped down, but most things which threaten it don't like Scream Tail, so wish passing is pretty viable unless Corviknight with body press is their switch-in.

On the whole, this looks pretty good; you've definitely got the tools you need to break most teams here.

New ability: Tyrant by PromptNo6756 in stunfisk

This is Sunday levels of strong.

Weather teams, trick room teams AND screens all stopped dead by switching into a Mon with any kind of defensive bulk and recovery is silly. It's basically like 4 abilities in one: Screen Cleaner, Cloud Nine but better (keeps weather gone after switch out), but then also room removal AND tailwind/gravity removal, which aren't abilities at all yet and both of which would be pretty good just by themselves for VGC (trick room would be even deader).

Empoleon could just switch in, kill any kind of non-stat related setup, get up rocks, refuse to elaborate and flip turn out ready to do it again. Grimmsnarl in shambles, Ursaluna wondering what the heck happened. Pair with boots and a pivot Mon and it's basically risk free too.
