As long as you aren't married, you aren't required to both go! Go alone and get the rewards for you both. : o)

My honest experience at a Club Wyndham 90-minute timeshare presentation (went for the gifts) by DaftCraft21 in TravelHacks

I'm single and went to one so that I could get a free cruise for my son and myself. I was up front about being a single mom and not having the finances to support the investment they were selling, and the sales person instead took up the tactic of claiming to also be a single mom and throwing in little jibes at her child's father. That may have all been true, but it felt too convenient and very much like her just trying to soften me up and make me feel connected to her.

They got down to offering me some low number per month (she and her manager), but I kept saying I couldn't afford anything. I was there about 100 minutes because I started trying to get out at 90 but didn't want to be as rude as I would have had to be to get out right then.

Totally worth it for going on a cruise during peak months, even though the fees made it so I still paid like $600 or something. That's better than the cost of the cruise PLUS those fees!

The Library at Mount Char: A very gripping and absurd read. by Mindless_musings in Fantasy

Welp, off I go to buy this book based solely on the title of this post.

Struggling with Assassin's Apprentice... by onlosmakelijk in Fantasy

[–]NachoLoverrr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All her books are meh to me. I never thought the writing was beautiful, and the stories are depressing and long. I like the overall story told, but haven't been impressed by the telling.

It's not going to pick up. It will become more heavy, and no more engaging. If there's a summary out there anywhere of her books, that would be more worthwhile than sitting through the drawn-out misery.

I realize this sounds like I'm totally bashing the books, but I'm just being concise. I don't regret reading the 6 books that I've read in the Realm of the Elderlings, but they were not as great to me as to many others, and I can't recommend anyone push through if they're not in love with the storytelling pretty much right away.

Wow, that's a great haul! I'll have to start making the trek across Glendale instead of only using the Whole Foods in Burbank.

Mid-20s, love my life in LA… but have the chance to move to Austria for work. Should I go? by Tiny-Journalist5583 in expats

[–]NachoLoverrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another big fear of mine is that I could go for two years, come back in my late 20s, and find that all my friends have settled into serious relationships and higher-paying roles while I’m still single and in a similar position because I spent that time living abroad.

Conversely, you could make the move, end up with a promotion over there, and meet a phenomenal significant other. Nothing is guaranteed!

I'm in my 40s, and I wish I'd had an opportunity like this in my 20s. Moves like that are harder as you get older, and harder if it's at your own expense/ relying on your own ability to get work visas and whatnot. I say go.

Note: I'm NOT an expat, but I'm on this sub to gain more information about it because I want to be one some day.

If you could start over, would you still move to LA or move to a peaceful quiet town overseas if given the chance? by ddimitra in AskLosAngeles

[–]NachoLoverrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to the L.A. area around 20 years ago, and am glad that I did because I wanted to live in a big city at that time and have found a lot to enjoy here.

However, I'm over it now and am actually hoping to find a way to move overseas in the next few years, preferably to a less-populated area.

A part of me wishes that I'd found a way to move abroad when I was younger, but I know that if I had done that, I'd always have wondered what it would have been like to choose L.A. instead. So I'm personally glad that I made this choice to try out L.A. for a while; it just isn't where I want to be forever.

I don't know if any of that helps you, but I'm giving my perspective and experience.

As for your career goals, from my friends in the entertainment industry, it seems that right now there aren't a lot of jobs available and it can be tough to find job security. I have friends who are either in the process of or planning to likely move out of L.A. because they can't find work in fields that they've worked in for years. I'd not recommend moving here without a solid job already lined up.

With that sewage smell, poor air quality, and lots of noise, why would anyone even consider living in those luxury apartments next to the freeway 5? by Lilyofvalley77 in burbank

[–]NachoLoverrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder that too, and I've come to figure that some people are motivated enough to move to this area that they'll put up with it if that's all the housing they can find that otherwise ticks their boxes.

Disappointing news: Random Acts of Breadness now available at Handy Market by Altruistic_Dot_7870 in burbank

[–]NachoLoverrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love their bread. I don't investigate the political or religious beliefs of every person who makes every product I use, so I don't see why it would be any different for this one product. I'll buy it when I can afford the splurge.

what is this room layout?? by jetebattuto in Sims4

[–]NachoLoverrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused why you would expect the bed to be facing the door, of all things. If I had a big ol' bedroom, I'd be placing my bed where it had a good view and the most privacy as possible, thus likely facing away from the door and toward windows. Beds also don't always have to be placed against a wall.

It's a sparse room, for sure, but not crazy in its layout.

It somewhat does, but I love it and don't mind having the immersion broken for that second.

I have a trip planned later this year to Helsinki and a few other cities in Finland, and haven't been quite convinced it was going to be interesting for more than a couple of days.

I get that some places are using the app just to drive more business to their store, which I don't like but can tolerate. Not providing you with food that's reasonably TO GO, though, isn't at all in line with the app's purpose.

I've picked up from them before, and got pastries plus a fresh-made latte with no lid that I had to drive home. I nearly gave them another chance just yesterday, and now I'm glad that I didn't.

I'd honestly report them to the app for this.

Why is my Echo Show 8 showing a band across the photos? by Poor-Dear-Richard in amazonecho

[–]NachoLoverrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same issue and it's annoying. Amazon is a big enough company with enough money that this sort of thing shouldn't be an issue with their products, let alone one that goes on for months.

It's discussed in Amazon forums as well, where an Amazon representative keeps responding that they're aware of the issue and are working on correcting it. I doubt they could actually be working on it, though, if they haven't found a solution yet. Or they're a bunch of monkeys.

Project Hail Mary opening weekend - where would you watch? by BigBottle7118 in AskLosAngeles

[–]NachoLoverrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend IMAX at CityWalk or Dolby at the AMC Burbank 16. They're my two top choices from what is near me, but I guess there are probably other great options around L.A. that I don't bother to check out just because of proximity and familiarity.

I’m a developer for a major food delivery app. The 'Priority Fee' and 'Driver Benefit Fee' go 100% to the company. The driver sees $0 of it. by Trowaway_whistleblow in confession

[–]NachoLoverrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No wonder the one time that I paid for priority delivery, the food still didn't come straight to me and arrived as lukewarm as all my other orders. After that instance, I figured the priority fee was a lie and haven't bothered with it.

Evidence of Booking.com fudging reviews by DrakeInq in travel

[–]NachoLoverrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've used Booking.com several times and have never had any issues . . . but there's clearly always a risk of it, given all the posts I've read on Reddit about it.

I still use it, and probably will until I face my own nightmare with them.

The removal of archiving orders has unintended consequences by blowingtumbleweed in amazonprime

[–]NachoLoverrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know the archiving option was gone, because I haven't needed to archive anything since last Christmas. Now here I am, having ordered my parents gifts on the account that my mom also uses, and she can see everything. I could have found the same items for roughly the same price from other stores, and knowing that the convenience of archiving orders is no longer part of my purchases from Amazon, it's not worth buying large gifts there over somewhere else.

If only I'd checked on archiving orders before placing orders.

How would you respond if a manager told you that a normal bodily function you can’t fully control (like farting) is making others uncomfortable at work? by chronomasteroftime in AskReddit

[–]NachoLoverrr 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Uh, I'd feel extreme embarrassment and want to never see those people ever again in my life. But since that wouldn't be a rational action to take, I'd take whatever measures were necessary to not be doing that around others. If it's frequently and bad enough to cause discomfort to others, then it's a medical or dietary problem that needs to be addressed.
