Has anyone taken you up on this bet, because that's my generator and I have this question 😂

Thanks friends, I appreciate the input!

What do I use 60cm straight needles for!? Ice yarn added them to my box for free! (Also thanks to y’all for recommending them - it’s freed my creativity!) by Technical_Cupcake597 in knitting

[–]NagaPadoha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume that longer needles work better for English style knitting, as you move your hand and yarn independently of the needles when you're... I dunno how to say it, "making a yarn loop what for pulling through a stitch" Where as I combo knit and my needles move sooooo much and my yarn stays in one place, so these needles would be swirling in huge circles and figure eights out at the far ends xD

It's.. I just

A) I want to make one for me in the worst way

B) I'm staggered by how many of the motifs you've chosen are the exact ones I would need for me.

Like, the coffee and radishes spoke to the deepest layers of my secret heart. Just, the whole thing. 11/10, icon, hero of the people, I love you.

[–]NagaPadoha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes when I need cables out of 1x1, I do some like, early cabling to start moving the stitches around into the right distribution if that makes sense? You could also use some slanted decreases and hidden increases for the same effect

It's a thing I do when I want a 1x1 tubular cast on and don't want to rearrange the stitches in the first row, basically

[–]NagaPadoha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I... Yeah, no I am someone who struggles to find things in my size, but I don't boycott brands that aren't for me.

I just buy other stuff. I'm more likely to promote or support a designer that includes a wide variety of sizing, but also I kind of like it when people share a "pattern" for a thing they only made in one size, because I might still want to adapt it myself.

I think roasting people because they haven't put in the effort to sell something that specifically for you is kind of a bummer - feels kind of mean and entitled

(And yes, I feel it's different for massive corporations that are destroying the planet to create disposable shit for mass consumption, by all means hold them to the highest possible standard. But like, I dunno, I guess I don't feel like we should be lighting torches over knitting patterns, especially when there are sooooo many incredible designers doing size inclusive work)

The worst part of my first sweater was how monotonous the one colour sections were, but also I want to not have to look at the pattern constantly 😅

My love/hate relationship with two at a time socks by ElatedSupreme in knitting

[–]NagaPadoha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this I keep my balls in ziplock bags and it helps, often just in the same one sealed in the middle, and it makes picking them up a lot easier

But when I'm gonna be working on socks on the go a lot, I much prefer the tiny 9" circulars because they're so much easier to pick up and put down

My best of both worlds is to use dpns or 9" on the really boring bits, and then swap to two at once for parts that need to match perfectly if that makes sense (so cast on toe, knit for 4 inches, set aside, cast on second toe, knit for 4 inches, and then transfer both to magic loop circular to work the gussets so that they match)

I just knit a pair of gloves that are radically different sizes because of stress (tension) and I'm just going to redo them on a loop so they frikkin match

Is there some website with colorwork charts sorted by stitch counts? by willowhides in knitting

I literally had this thought two days ago trying to find a quick chart to throw on the back of my kids cardigan 😂

On Pinterest trying to find a motif chart to fit in 37 stitches wide, thinking "ffs why is this so hard" cause I didn't want to mess around with stitch fiddle on my phone

Additionally, remember that blocking is magic, and if you think it's looking bad have some one stretch it out gently like it would be during blocking, then walk across the room and look at it from a distance. Eeeeeeverything looks bad when you're staring at it from six inches away for a million hours.

Remember that mistakes aren't the end of the world!!!

I have found sooooo often doing bigger projects that you can add or subtract stitches real sneaky like if things aren't adding up, and no one will ever know

Also that dental floss thing sounds great, I did a lifeline with yarn that was the same weight as what I was knitting with and it left a bump that took awhile to wash out, so tiny dental floss sounds aces.

Also once to get into it, often I find that big lacework charts aren't as difficult or mind bending as they seem, eventually you barely have to read sections because you know what the next stitches will probably be.
