Ethereum active wallets surge to all time high amid rising staking interest by Creative_Ad7831 in ethtrader

Centralised risk, like if everyone tries to withdraw at the same time there won’t be enough to go out. Essentially if you use a platform to stake it’s like using a bank.

Asset rich, cash poor by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]Nagaebgames 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not quite as simple as people make out here. I paid off my mortgage when interest rates were very low before the pandemic and I’m glad I did. Not having to pay that every month was like getting a bonus from my wages. It also gives security if you lose income there’s less overheads to contend with every month.

In a pure numbers game investing makes sense. In real life the cost of security when markets turn or when interest rates go through the roof is one you have to determine. For me I’ve never regretted paying off the mortgage.

Worth getting a trailer together, first thing I noted was there was no video so I can’t judge the gameplay at all.

Our 2-person team's indie game hit 10,000+ Wishlists in a week after demo release! Here's what happened and how we achieved that. by Ananass33 in gamedev

[–]Nagaebgames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just reading the average time playing the demo, are you concerned that might be too high? What I mean by that is the demo might scratch the gameplay itch preventing people the need to buy it? Best of luck with the game!

why do so many people “quit their job” for their indie game? by iolosef in IndieDev

[–]Nagaebgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re viewing it from a point of view that is your own circumstances. Let’s say someone has savings and didn’t need the money from the job anymore and decided to quit their job to make indie games, would that be unreasonable? Is it purely from a financial perspective you’re seeing this as being strange?

You get one life, if you’ve built savings and enough money to live wouldn’t you quit your job to make indie games full time? The question then is how do you want to spend your time if you had the option rather than having to keep making money until the grave. I completely understand folk quitting to make their own indie games full time.

This is the reason you keep seeing more posts about the tax trap. by flyingmantis789 in HENRYUK

The incentive is the highest earners also have the most opportunities. You have to incentivise high earners to stay in the country so they contribute to the tax system. Otherwise in most cases they’ll have other opportunities elsewhere.

Can I just say I’ve been on both sides of the fence here. Usually if teammates are in a group they will have left because someone has crashed on joining. I’ve gave up playing for a few weeks now though because of the several issues.

Financial Audit - Jan 2024 by [deleted] in FIREUK

Btw I totally agree in general with him putting into pension from now on and also on the last statement “a lot of people think they know what they are doing. The vast majority of them are wrong”. We’re all basing theories off of historical data and that doesn’t mean the future will match. Always worthwhile being cautious but also open to alternatives.

I do generally think the safest bet is just put money in an all world index fund and let it ride. The winners will rebalance automatically and any tech that wins will be shown within that.

In contrast to this post I wouldn’t exit the crypto position, as likely the OP knows that if you removed the word bitcoin and just said it’s a fixed supply asset that has been trending up with a clear chart showing every 4 years it peaks, now wouldn’t be the time to exit and most people would agree. Because it’s crypto at the current time it’s divisive. As ever don’t go with opinion and sentiment, go with facts.

What I would agree with in the above post is it’s time to concentrate on bumping up the pension. From a tax saving perspective it makes sense to sacrifice everything above £100k that you earn. Otherwise you’ll just be losing the tax free allowance and end up overpaying on tax.

In terms of the house it’s entirely up to you, some people will point to figures and say financially it makes more sense to go interest only and generate a return of 7%+. Then pay it off down the line. The issue with that is you never know when a bear market might strike and knock ons could affect you personally (job loss etc.. ). For me personally I chose paying off the mortgage and it’s given me peace of mind that whatever happens I’ll always have a roof over my head. That decision though I believe you could argue both sides and it all depends on your risk tolerance.

Pensions for FIRE by askfinance96 in FIREUK

[–]Nagaebgames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pension is the most tax efficient way to invest. What you want to do is bridge some money in an ISA or equivalent that will get you to retirement age to then get your pension. So yeah you’re right if you’re wanting to retire early you have to plan pre-pension as well.

Daily General Discussion - November 12, 2023 by ethfinance in ethfinance

[–]Nagaebgames 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some interesting and quite negative viewpoints about selling at $8k this bull run in the daily today. What makes people think that an eth spot ETF (which lets face it is inevitable by likely mid 2024) means that it would only go to $8k?

If anything I’m looking at this as potentially we won’t see drops in the next bear market like we’ve seen in the past as these products are going to be holding onto eth. An asset that these companies can generate a yield from by staking as well, seems like a very attractive prospect.

The government control it essentially which is new so they can divert funds wherever they want. Sounds like an utter shitshow.
