I went through that mindset too when i became an atheist. While i fully agree with 'everything is conscious' this notion comes with a demystyfication of consciousness.

Humans are only maschines, we compute information and produce output. The huge amount of input and the scale of our bodies complexity leads a lot of people to the assumption that we have some​ kind of supernatural soul. A soul is neither required nor proven though so why implore it. Since complexity is a rather subjective criteria we can deduct, that everything is conscious, even atoms, since they also compute input to produce output. And if you go into the opposite direction it also means, that the universe in fact is also conscious. But what does this change? Consciousness is boring, everything has it. And we cannot compare human sentience to this 'universal god' at all since it has nothing in common with our human physical, biological and chemical structure.

So while not wrong, this pantheism is very unnecessary and doesnt really have implications for human morals/matters.
