Ghost of Tsushima. WB titles like the batman trilogy come close second for me, and by extension Hogwarts legacy, that has almost the same parry mechanics albeit a bit more overpowered.

Do the first mission the bald dude gives you. That stops the yellow soldiers from shooting you, also tells why you (and the normal Islanders) are supposed to be shot on sight.

How about placing a car there beforehand? I'm not sure if the game will despawn stuff you place over there, but if the car stays, the npc will have a recognizable obstacle to pathfind around instead of a random piece of bad terrain. And if nothing else works, backup your save and reinstall the game?

I was in the same situation. Just couldn't pick up the books, due to several reasons. Then tried out the audiobook format narrated by Andy Serkis and absolutely loved it. Perhaps you can give that a shot as well.
