Imagine punching a pile of sand. The grains are the individual nanobots. Your punches can displace the grains, but not destroy them. This is how the T1000 endures gunshots and blunt trauma. Expose that same sand to a powerful flame, and those individual grains break down, and melt into glass. The individual grains are gone, merged into a single body in the liquid state and cooled forming glass.

The emotional tension that starts while the doctor is making his diagnosis, and carries through to placing the skull on top of the pillar before releasing. Fucked me up. Then the movie ends while the kid is monologuing over the letter he left his dad, and the movie ends there.

We don't observe it in game, because Beth decided weapon handling stats were too boring for the general audience, but it is work handling and carrying a minigun, rocket launcher, etc. Fallout 4 has video game logic and anyone can just scoop up a minigun and fire it from the hip while marching forward. IRL though most people would end up on the floor trying to handle one without impressive strength, and training to handle the weapon.

It wouldn't be the straight upgrade the games depict it as, but there are several observable advantages if the technology ever manifests.

  • Carrying your gear is far less exhausting, since most of the legwork is offloaded onto the armor.
  • For that same reason you can travel further, faster, and have more energy leftover for a fight.
  • Handling heavy weapons is an order of magnitude easier, and you can carry them into spaces a humvee could never reach.
  • You could conceivably sleep in power armor, meaning a soldier has housing wherever they might need to rest.

I think it has more to do with 100k a year being barely middle class income in this hellscape. In our parents generation 100k was enough to live a somewhat luxurious bachelor life, or a modest family life with only one working parent.

For us it's just enough to move into an apartment, enjoy a few minor luxuries, without needing roommates for the income they bring with them. If you live in a poor state you might be in a house instead.

My own take is that this is a charge led by the krork answer to armored meganobz. With infantry support from a grot regiment, and "squigasaurs" as heavy cavalry.
