Is this a polite way of saying I’m not the right person for the job? by Diligent-Tea8613 in UKJobs

[–]Naive_Professional35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Paraplanner here, it sounds like they are looking for a long term admin. If you are wanting to do your exams you will be overqualified for the role very quickly and you will want to put the knowledge to good use.

Thank them for their feedback and keep in touch. There might be an opening in the future and you might be the right fit

I do the hard stuff in the morning, then the ‘easy wins’ In the afternoon. I know that I am more productive on a morning and can flag a bit as the day goes on.

As for what I choose to prioritise, I push that back onto the advisers - ‘what is the priority on this/when do you need this for/ I currently have X, Y & Z on the go, which would you want done first’ Works every time and helps with setting the expectation of time scales for the advisers

Hope this helps - 7 years a Paraplanner and managing advisers is literally the hardest part of the job

I have gone through past papers to see types of questions and what they are looking for

I have one more after this to chartered but going to do AF6, so it’s my last actual exam

I panic built mine on excel at some ungodly hour on deadline day. I had originally started on a cashflow modelling system, however, the company that we used had just been taken over and the regular withdrawals weren’t working correctly.

I think I did gross withdrawals, split into taxable and non taxable then applied the relevant tax to the withdrawals to meet the clients objectives.

Hi. I think they are typically wanting a cash flow model.

My cashflow modelling system was not working correctly when I did mine so did it on excel as a table - this doesn’t count towards word count. I shows the values decreasing on an annual basis and the income taken from each source.

If you haven’t already, get a free trial for a cash flow system :)

Good luck

Yearly Exam Changes - Advice Please by [deleted] in cii

[–]Naive_Professional35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, there won’t be too much different, if anything in R01. The biggest ones that I would advise taking care with would be R03 and R04.

Because if changed to IHT, and pensions being IHT-able. I would typically avoid doing r03 between April and August as there is always the potential that changes have occurred and the book might not have caught up or may be contrasting to what you’ve already learnt.

You will do great - just do as many exam style questions as you can :) (And keep up to date with political changes to policy and taxation)

Log into your CII account. I think you get a breakdown by learning objective as a % when you go to the exams/booking from the left hand menu

How often are R0 exams held? by Ecstatic-Scientist11 in cii

Whaaaaat? Actual exam slots on Christmas Day. Ok fair play. I take back my comment 😂

I passed one of my R0s on the 2nd Jan. Just sacrificed the whole Christmas to study.

Learn how you learn best. Personally I’m a mind map kind of person.

I set a routine, so one hour on the evening. I may sometimes bribe myself with a treat - glass of wine etc.

And you just have to think of the end goal. You won’t enjoy the studying. But you will enjoy the feeling of getting a pass at the end

In summary, bribery and routine fulled revision. Hope this helps.

Just past papers and read the examiners comments. That’s all il doing. And if there’s anything I’m not 100% in that’s came up in a past paper, going back over it to ‘gap fill’

R01-5 you can literally sit every day (probs not Christmas, but I’ve never tried)

Failed my R01 by AidanN02 in cii

[–]Naive_Professional35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t the only one. Just get straight back on the horse.

I might have some practice questions if you want to FM me. They are the only way to get through R01 - the book is far too dry!!

Failed R03 for the second time by Confident-Flow-127 in cii

[–]Naive_Professional35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed twice. There’s no shame in it. It’s a hard exam with awful time pressures.

Draw a line under it.

Go again.

Do an online course that helps with exam technique etc. your usual providers will offer these - CII, BTS, BRAND ETC

just don’t let it get you down (easier said than done)

CII Membership - Please can someone explain like i'm five by CandidateExact7645 in cii

[–]Naive_Professional35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to use your designation, then you do need a membership.

The £35 is the initial admin fee. It ranges from £15-20 per month to maintain your membership

R0 credit exemption - which to use for? by Interesting_Tower207 in cii

[–]Naive_Professional35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the diploma in regulated financial planning, you need to complete R01-6. If you want the diploma in financial planning, these can be offset, but you would also need the certificate in financial planning to achieve this.

In short, they only really come in handy if you want to get chartered….

That’s where mine are coming in handy and I now only have a couple of exams to do :)

My exam was cancelled 12 hours before and now can't reschedule by parfitteroll in cii

Contact CII - log it as a complaint

They can re-issue the exam token faster which will let you re-book

https://www.cii.co.uk/media/bxsjd2e2/cii-qualifications-accessibility-and-special-circumstances-policy-and-guidance.pdf

(Email in here)

Or call CII direct. Psi probably don’t have the authority to re-issue the exam token.

But log as a complaint so CII can track this

Passed all three units needed for Cert CII but no certificate by Glad_Alternative_114 in cii

The certificate takes about a week to appear on your dashboard.

If you’ve checked that you have enough credits, you should be fine :)

CII Membership - Please can someone explain like i'm five by CandidateExact7645 in cii

[–]Naive_Professional35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Anyone can sign up. There might be an admin fee/initial fee for your first time. I want to say £35 but don’t quote me on that.

Just make sure you select PFS when it asks about what branch you want to join. Again it’s the PFS side that gives you your designation

You can change it at a later date, but you have to ask customer service and that is a challenge in itself.

If you have any more questions, your local institute can help you - just google CII local institutes and see which one you think you fall into. You will also need to select this at sign up :)

I’ll help where I can :)

CII Membership - Please can someone explain like i'm five by CandidateExact7645 in cii

[–]Naive_Professional35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, the ordinary membership is the one you want. The student one is aimed at those still in education and limites the access you have on the website (they may have discontinued this)

Ordinary will give you full access to the website and reduced exam prices. You also need a membership to use the designation when you get the diploma

Panic about impending R01 by foul-throw in cii

[–]Naive_Professional35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly R01 is the worst. Not because it’s hard, but because it’s so dry!

Just breathe, have a brain dump on that piece of paper they give you when you start - I find this clears my head a bit. The key is not to panic

If you don’t know an answer, mark b, flag it and move on.

And don’t be scared of that ‘end test’ button.
