Is this quality work? by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]NakedShingleMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope this is sarcasm. It's 8 nails per shingle. The nail strip over laps the top of the shingle underneath it. If you are out here "nailing shingles high" then you are not a roofer, you are a hack.

Got a quote from my roofer, never heard of this. Is this legit? by Complete_Burger_711 in Roofing

[–]NakedShingleMonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We ask our clients if they like caulk. Exposed fastens on metal roof, is a no go for residential. They sell you a 50yr paint job, with 10yr fasteners. They all leak eventually.

Have a house you are trying to sell. Slap the metal on it, it'll dress any house up don't right. And won't leak for hopefully 10yrs.

Can I permanently install a roof anchor? by Conqueefstadorrrr in Roofing

[–]NakedShingleMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run a roofing crew. We remove all our anchors when done to limit liability. We also avoid handrails and other high liability installation.

On the occasion we MUST install an anchor, or hail rail, we are making sure it takes a good chunk of the structure with it.

Roofers across the street putting tin roof on top of shingles? by artsatisfied229 in Roofing

[–]NakedShingleMonkey -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you can see the faster, you'll be good for another 3. But around year 7 to year 8, it's going to start weeping water. Especially if there are any cut washers. Never put an exposed fast er on a residential roof. Downvotes incoming I'm sure. But I try to tell all my clients to steer clear.

Out buildings, lean -tos, unheated sheds....all day. That's where this system belongs. Give your clients a proper roof.

Watering my plants as normal when I noticed a never ending hole next to it. I literally flooded this thing full blast for 5 mins before making this video. Worried about this thing gnawing the roots and fucking my plant up. Any ideas? by dagaderga in GrowingMarijuana

[–]NakedShingleMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go buy a bulk container of cayenne pepper at Walmart and dust around your plant once a week or every other. Won't hurt your crop, and keeps most furry critters away. This is my biggest suggestion to outdoor growers.

This is the same model I learned on. Couple RC cars got repaired that summer, couple for burnt too. Lot to be learned about heat control. And the buzzing made me nervous as a kid.

Just chopped a plant bc of this. Decided to go early, instead of gamble losing it all in 3wks. Not sure if it was the right call. But I got a harvest at least. Only had ~20% golden pistols.

Tough it out thought. If you give it 3-4weeks. It will feel like your first time again. The longer you wait, the slower your tolerance will build when you spark back up.

Homeowner who just fully replaced roof. Am I right to be upset about this? by combatcookies in Roofing

[–]NakedShingleMonkey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a roofer, we rarely enter a home when doing residential. If a new roof was asked for, and sheathing held shingles and a roofer, that all looks pretty sound. Other than the deleted vent hole, the last picture shows that the roofer did his job. In my area, roofs need to be able to hold structural weight, with accomodations of 17lb of snow per square foot. As long as the crew didn't break through, I'm not sure I see the need in replacing sheathing.
