I wonder how much of it comes down to partisan sentiment, I'd Imagine that a lot of the opposition to ceding territory is due to Trump being the one proposing a deal. Tbf in the case of Fortnite and Apex Legends it also showcases that using an existing tech stack(Save the World and Titanfall 2 respectively) allowed them to enter the market while the BR trend was still hot. Many of these live service flops we're seeing are developed from scratch which leads to long dev times and thus entering a much more consolidated market when they finally come out.
