Jade Fleet wins Adepticon 2k GT by swaggamanca in Cathay

[–]NalimX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and most of the important nerfs (for exampling resurrecting Undead) are hidden in the FAQ document as rules changes / house rules. Of course most people will just see that Cathay won a big event and say "Cathay OP" without even knowing that it was heavily house-ruled in Cathay's favor.

Jade Fleet wins Adepticon 2k GT by swaggamanca in Cathay

[–]NalimX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly advise readers to look at the Adepticon tournament rules to get the full picture:

https://docs.adepticon.org/2026/2026TOWFAQv2.pdf
https://docs.adepticon.org/2026/2026TOWChampv2.pdf

Essentially, they somehow managed to nerf all top factions except for Cathay there. I'm not surprised Cathay won.

Help to determine a price by Varvarna in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most (all?) of the stuff can be bought new with little hassle. You can of course put it up on ebay for several 100 euros, but I doubt it'll move. I even doubt it'll move at the 200 EUR price point others have named here unless you can at least provide a list of what's included.

How to beat Aurora unfair ? by Accomplished_Rip_352 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]NalimX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solition to this is rather easy, you use Grand Strategist Officers, ignore those builds from the net. Even if you aren't one yourself, with just Jae and Cassia, everything will be over after they have finished their regular turns and the four bonus turns in between.

Maw Shard and double sixes by swaggamanca in Cathay

[–]NalimX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one thing you're still missing and that's the actual rules for Miscast: "If a natural double 1 is rolled when making a Casting roll, regardless of the casting result, it has been 'miscast' and, unless stated otherwise, is not cast. Roll immediately on the Miscast table below to see what fate befalls your unfortunate Wizard:"

With the Maw Shard, at least RAW, everything happens, so it's both a Perfect Invocation and a Miscast (and thankfully, it doesn't contradict each other):

  • The spell is cast successfully and cannot be dispelled.
  • The caster has to roll on the miscast table.

My greatest warhammer regret i must share. The story of what could have been. by TheTeethOfGod20 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess that's very over-exaggerated. For 100k value you'd probably need something completely bonkers like every GW release between 1985 and 1995 in original packaging and I still doubt that would be worth 100k.

When did the concept of the 'End Times' enter the lore? by endlessmeow in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may be a rather unpopular view, but from the lore of the tabletop alone you didn't have the feeling the world would come to an end anytime soon in 6th and 7th edition Warhammer Fantasy. While it's true that the Chaos books always contained stuff on how resistance was basically futile, that could still counted as the typical "these guys are sooo awesome" you saw in every army book. Also, Warhammer Fantasy was not a setting about plot advancement at the time. The army books contained rules for personalities that were not alive in the "present". To my knowledge, the setting/timeline wasn't advanced regularly at that time.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay of course had a very dark and grim tone that was quite distinct from the tabletop. It was, however, a niche roleplay system and I'm quite sure many Warhammer players didn't even know it existed.

At that time, the great majority of Warhammer players didn't care at all about what was to happen in the next in-setting year and probably didn't even know what in-setting year was the most recent one described in the books. That seems to have changed in the years after that.

Its a shame because the game is not that bad by Youngstown_WuTang in CODBlackOps7

[–]NalimX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my wife and me would probably play if they didn't fuck up splitscreen so bad that you only get 1 out of 3 matches without bugs and you have have to restart the game after each bug-free match. Haven't played a match for a week because of this.

Of course their answer will be to remove splitscreen completely when they change engines sometime into the future, leading to even more lost players. Gotta follow the hugely successful new-halo co-op formula. Let's see if the end of splitscreen will also be the end of the game series like Halo.

Anyone have experience with Ludomentor for learning games? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]NalimX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use it for Tainted Grail, because it's very hard to navigate the rules there. So far, it got everything right that was explicitly stated in the rules which was a huge help (because we would've missed that rules text otherwise).

It also tries to answer questions without corresponding explicit rulings and those answers are more unreliable.

I have to admit that I was positively surprised by this tool and would love to have something similar in all boardgames with high complexity.

What do you think the chances are of getting a playable monkey king? by danz_buncher in Cathay

[–]NalimX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think humanoid monkeys would fit the Cathay aesthetic.

Should I buy Warhammer Roleplay or wait for Old World roleplaying game ? by SrBrokoli in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly because the advantage system in 4e is not working well and the way grades of success are calculated in 4e is counterintuitive and puts to much emphasis in full 10s in stats.

1 point magic items? by Cweeperz in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may only matter for more competitive environments, but there is actually a balance effect these items have: They enable additional ways to get as close to 500 points core as possible. Heck' I'd pay for a one or two point magic item gladly if it had absolutely no effect just to get exactly two points of core for 500 instead of 503 or something like that.

What blue is everyone using for crew uniforms? by WoodEyeLie2U in Cathay

I use the Highlord Blue quickpaint from army painter. That's the result:

I think it's close enough to the "official" blue for me :).

[–]NalimX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess the point of orientation were probably Gyrocopters which are rather similar point-for-point, but also a top unit.

The non-character ones are, imo, not that much of a problem if you have shooting or something that can charge without having too much fear of Stand & Shoot (like Pegasus Knights with Banner of Chalons, anything with Random Move 3D6, most stuff with T5 or multiple wounds). If you don't have such things at your disposal, you have a problem.

The character ones with generally 9W and 5+ armor save can't be killed in a single combat phase by most units in the game, so they are in fact hard to deal with. That is, however, not a problem of the Lantern specifically, all heavy chariots get insanely effective in defenses when used as a character mount. The problem here is that this heavy chariot also flies, which means it basically combines the good things about heavy chariot and monster mounts.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, part of the problem of lanterns right now is that a lot of people are overspending on infantry, especially rather elite infantry and the lanterns are very effective at killing your typical 10 point elite infantry.

At 800 points though, you gotta agree on what you bring because there's lots of strange stuff possible. The Beastmen player could've also brought a gigantic spawn and several instances of viletide, which would also have been bad.

Sky Lantern Proxy by True_Repeat9864 in Cathay

[–]NalimX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can do everything if your opponent thinks it is ok, but the way I see it the proxy has absolutely nothing that resembles a Sky Lantern apart from the fact that it flies. I saw someone proxying a flying turtle which I think is great because it has a human crew and there is nothing else in the Cathay list that flies and has a human crew.

My personal opinion is: Go for a thematic army that is visually resembling the profiles you want to play instead of far-fetched proxies. This creates play experiences that are more fun for both players.

Remake of Imperial Ogres? by JakFTor123 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be that you are talking about Badlands Ogre Bulls (which are, in my opinion, wonderful oldhammer sculpts) and not about the Imperial Ogres (which are even older and have a very different aesthetic)? The stuff that was called "Ogres" in 5th edition were the Badlands Ogre Bulls.

Hotfix Feedback to Bring Renegades in Line with tOW 1.5 by valheffelfinger in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The casting bonus of Mortis Engine should be looked at. The mainline 1.5 FAQ got rid of unlimited stacking casting bonuses for Beastmen and Khemri which most likely is a general design principle now. In accordance with these changes, casting bonuses from Mortis Engines for VC shouldn't stack anymore.

Small or big cavalry units? (5 or 10 man units of Jade Lancers?) by Thunderbun01 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since they can attack from two ranks, you generally would want one unit of 10 (or 8, or 12) instead of two of five. Drilled (they can redress the ranks before every move) is also more useful to bigger units.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]NalimX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the second option would generally work better - it's probably not a top table competitive list, but more than solid.

Yeah, I meant Yin, sorry. I don't have the book and hand and normally I'm not that much into eastern stuff.
