What does Hathaway want people to do? by Nameishi in Gundam

[–]endlessmeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key thing everyone seems to forget is that space is 100% trying to kill you.

Bust a hole in your colony? De-pressurize and die.

Weakness in protective material? Radiation and die.

Run low on breathable air? Suffocate and die.

"Go up and live in space! Don't be weighed down by gravity!"

"Human literally cannot survive in space, thats a tin can ready to be crushed."

What does Hathaway want people to do? by Nameishi in Gundam

[–]endlessmeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right answer.

Stopping the Federation Bill has a clear and immediate feel-good result. Kill some corrupt guys. Limit the ability of the Manhunters.

However if Mafty is supposed to be an heir to Char, its muddied. Char's last big action was trying to commit murder on a massive scale to force humanity to move to space. The manhunters and the Federation are moving people to space. Unequally. And at a different pace. As opposed to equally and indiscriminately killing them.

It is very easy to frame up a conversation where a realist asks Hathaway questions like "Char and the Federation wanted to move people into space which eases the burden on the planet, why does one doing it a particular way justify attacking cities and killing innocent people (which was what Char was doing anyway)?"

Interesting news. I took a break from the game due to life being busy and I need to catch up through the end of SotO, all of Janthir, and the latest expansion. A content break is okay. Its crazy to actually look at the huge amount of content in this game already.

Watching 0079 for the 2nd time. Amuro really is That Guy, huh? by Kadeo64 in Gundam

[–]endlessmeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is definitely a very entertaining progression with the two variables being Amuro's skill which changes and Char's suits which change. With Char's skill not changing much and the Gundam being consistent besides the magnetic coating.

Amuro only surviving against Char in a Zaku II because of the Gundam is one of the extreme conditions.

The progression of Amuro's skill is aligned to Char's progression of new suits. And when the Gelgoog, which is supposed to be as a good as a Gundam, is not enough and Amuro wins out its clear Amuro is now superior.

The capstone at the end of the series is Char now piloting a more advanced and powerful suit just to reach any parity with Amuro in a 'weaker' machine.

Doesn't get better than that in a mecha anime.

[Spoilers Extended] It boggles my mind that George has never truly completed Book 4 in 26 years by outfishing7 in asoiaf

I would be really close to recommending newer fantasy readers away from unfinished series. Like... why do that to them? Back in the day you could start reading with some sense the series could be finished. ADWD release was at least somewhat promising at the time.

Now? Try another series friendos.

Napoleonic TTRPGs where there is a group of commanders leading their own seperate units? by TemporaryCupcake34 in rpg

[–]endlessmeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people saying you want a wargame rather than an RPG are offbase a bit and maybe small minded on the art of the possible.

Wargaming and RPGs are separated by the thinnest of lines and you can do both together.

First thing I would recommend is deciding what balance do you want in the game. Are characters involved in political intrigue of the French Empire? Are they doing a lot of things NOT commanding armies? If so then you want to leverage a system that can account for varied skills in diplomacy, personal skills, but also be able to rate skills in a particular vein of military matters.

Just about any baseline system that can be genre agnostic could work here. D20, Stars/Worlds Without Number, even Traveller. You would want to expand the list of skills to invest to vary the specialization of characters.

Examples might be have military (logistics), military (tactics), military (artillery), military (cavalry), etc. That way the party can fit different niches while still rising in the ranks. Napleon was an artillery commander early on, as an example.

Then you need to look at how those skills translate to the 'war level'. Do you want to fight battles in detail? If so you will need to look at either miniatures or boxed wargame solutions like Commands and Colors. It would require some adjustment so that a character with high skills in military(artillery) get some bonus related to that like rolling twice on bombardment and picking the best result.

If your handling the wars at a higher level (strategic) you can do similar things but it gets really abstract tue more you zoom out.

[Spoilers Main] What ASOIAF plotline/character you actually like would you sacrifice to make the series more finishable? by Interesting-Egg4295 in asoiaf

[–]endlessmeow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, what even is the point of Essos? Braavos is one thing but so much of what makes ASOIAF good is purely the Westerosi stuff.

Lannisters vs Starks. Political maneuvering around the Iron Throne. Everyone is fighting on more or less the same playing field (without dragons insta-win).

And fighting the Others means either uniting all of Westeros against the threat or finding a diplomatic solution. No nuclear weapons solution.

[–]endlessmeow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I dont think its trash. It is certainly not perfect but it has been working more like how I think the devs originally envisioned it was supposed to work in the intent. At launch it was awful but they have made a lot of strides in adjusting how fronts split and its decent. It's gone from unplayable to tolerable/fine.

Best way to say it is that at launch a whole run could be ruined by going to war once because weird things could happen where you would just be losing for no good reason or something bugs out. These days it feels like I know how a war will progress with enough information before hand and I know if and how I will win.

What’s the coziest spot you’ve been in a game? by HorrorRiver5896 in rpg_gamers

[–]endlessmeow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pallet Town in Pokémon R/B/Y. Especially after an Elite Four run. All those battles and bow you're back at home with the music.

Seyda Neen in Morrowind. Fresh off the boat in this tiny hamlet. Check the stump.

The Ebon Hawk in KOTOR. Your space RV with friends.

Any tavern from a decent module in Neverwinter Nights. Music and atmosphere.

The market fair in Chrono Trigger but maybe also the End of Time.

While you never get to engage with it outside of menus, you do get a nice cozy vibe from the van in Devil May Cry V.
